Returning to work

Hi, I am asking this for my Friend Liz who does not have access to a PC.She has just returned to work after 9 months. She has had Chemo,Radio and is on Tamoxefen. She is a manual worker. She is working on light duties for 4 hours a day,but they are already pressurising her to get up to full hours. Is there a code of conduct that Employers should adhere to regarding Breast Cancer Employees.Liz is doing great, but now feeling low.How can I help her.

Hi there newhalllass

I am sorry to hear that your friend is struggling with pressure from her employer.

Breast Cancer Care does produce a booklet for employers called The EMPLOY Charter for Employers.

I have given the link here to the publication which can be either downloaded from this site or ordered.

I do hope this is of some help.

Kind regards.

Your friend will be protected by the Disability Act. The link above should give all the details. She shouldn’t be pushed into doing more than she feels ready to do. I have been back at work a year and, although I’ve been full-time (admin) for the past 10 months, still feel really wiped out at the end of the day. As she’s doing a manual job, that’ll be even harder. Hope she gets on okay. x

Thanks for those replies,I live in Spain and Liz lives in the UK.I have given her the Breast Cancer Care telephone number so she can get this booklet. She is feeling tired all the time and the drug she takes interrupts her sleeping patterns. She is also on her own,I try to get back as often as I can.Anyway thanks for your help.xx
