RFID insertion

Hi all

i have an appointment on Monday for an “US RFID insertion Rt”.  What’s that?  I am scheduled for breast conserving surgery on 19th and then see what comes next. I was expecting a pre op consultation but not sure what this is.

you lovely ladies have any idea??

Hi Viewpoint

RFID is replacing wire guided surgery…I had it last year ( but I also had the wire guide) as it was relatively new… my surgeon explained it…as when tumours are small…they need to pinpoint them prior to surgery…which used to be always a wire inserted ( my wire was done the day before surgery)…with the RFID …it’s a radio frequency signal they get from inserting a ‘seed’ ( was how it was described to me) so the surgeon can find the tumour easily when he operates…I had my ‘seed’ inserted on the morning of the surgery…You get a local before insertion of both…but it was a bit more painful than the core biopsies I had…but ok. The US just means it’s going to be inserted with the help of an ultrasound scan… it’s a bit like a mini surgical procedure…but done in the ultrasound room…so they put the green sheets over you…and they are all gowned up…but that’s par for the course these days with Covid…honestly it will be fine.   The seed can stay inside you until you have surgery…then will be removed on the day along with the tumour.I hope my explanation makes some sense.

take good care
