Hi, I was diagnosed with breat cancer in July 2024. HER-2 negative with a central excision and sentinel node biopsy in September 2024. I had 5 months of Chemo followed by a month of daily raditherapy that finished in May 2024. About 3-4 weeks ago I have noticed a sensitive part of my ribcage which feels like brusing. My breast care nurse has said this is the after effects of radiotherapy. Has anyone else suffered this? As I have had a lot of conflicting advice and information from various nurses and doctors at my hospital I am unsure if this ‘diagnosis’ is correct.
Yep. Just recently had my first annual check up, and Doc says it’s normal apparently. Just put my Xmas decs away, and my ribs feel like I’ve been kicked. It will settle over the next couple of days. Its only certain movements or coughing that aggravates it - but its another thing to add to the list ![]()
If you are still concerned, don’t be shy in contacting them again or ask your GP for advice.
Yes, I had this too. I was worried it was related to the cancer, but my oncologist examined me and said that it was damage to the tissue between my ribs (I think he said cartilage damage). As Sal1 says, if it’s still worrying you always go back though.

I haven’t experienced this but someone I work with sustained rib damage after treatment . I would say don’t be fobbed off though speak to your GP again and get properly checked out. Xx
Thanks @sal1 sorry to hear you’re experiencing it too but it makes me feel a bit better that you and a few others are having the same symptoms.
Wishing you all the best with your recovery. I am realising it’s a long road ![]()
Thanks @lisa49 as I said to @sal1 it’s reassuring to know other have the same symptons. I’ve got an oncology appointment later in the month so will get it checked out
Wishing you everything good with your recovery x
Thanks @JoanneN it’s good to know I’m not alone in this. I will get it checked out at my oncology appointment later this month.
I take it you are a ‘fellow survivor’ as you’re on here so I wish you all the best and as speedy a recovery as possible x
