Ribociclib and Statins

Hi there,

I’m on my second cycle of Ribociclib. Due to reactions I had going through chemo (though most likely the steroids too) and because my cancer was caught early, I’m on a starting dose of 200mg. Im also on Letrozole. My onco dx score was 30.

There’s been some discussion around statins. I currently take simvastatin 20mg. Ive also read that this statin and ribociclib aren’t good partners. Is anyone else taking simvastatin with Ribociclib or were you and then it was changed? If so, to what.

Ive been round the houses with pharmacy, GP and oncology as to which to switch to - one conversation indicating as both are low doses. It may be fine to keep taking. Others suggesting atvorastatin but another saying no as that works like simvastatin. So for now I’m still taking simvastatin.

@chrissye1 hi there! I take Ribociclib and a statin but I take Rosuvastatin. I had a discussion with someone else about this and said I’d ask my oncologist. She just said that the pharmacy check my medications each time they prescribed the Ribo and so there doesn’t seem to have been a problem. I would suggest listening to the pharmacy as they do all the checking.

the BNF says with Rosuvastatin to monitor for toxicity but with Simvastatin to avoid so they maybe have slightly different ingredients xx

Thank you for replying. There does seem to be some different thinking. Ive another oncol meeting in a couple of weeks. Hopefully pharmacy will advise which statin for then.
