I have just fin 3FEC/3TAX and the best thing I can say about that is it’s over!!!
I have hardly eaten as everything has tasted so horrible esp on the last one! I have lost a few pounds, granted every cloud and all that …but when can I expect a cuppa to taste normal again???
So pleased that you got through this treatment - it is a toughie. I felt my taste buds started to return to normal about 3 weeks after my last treatment. And, oh how I have enjoyed the rediscovery of the taste of good food! I was a bit over indulgent with the cakes, etc and put back on all the weight I had lost on chemo and some more pounds. Now back to a sensible diet and ‘indulge’ a little at the weekend. Enjoy your food, sometime very soon! Take care. J.
congrats on having finished the chemo, it took about 2 weeks for my taste to come back,
I finished my chemo end of April, I still ocassionally get that weird slimy taste in my mouth I dont know whether you had that, its bliss to be able to taste my food though,
keep with it you will start feeling human again very soon, take it easy and give yourself time,
Well done, J. I found the taste thing a pain in the neck too, and I only had FEC, no Tax and I’ve heard Tax really messes with your mouth a lot worse than FEC. I think it took a few weeks before the FEC “burnt mouth” thing gradually wore off, so hopefully it’ll be similar for you for the last lot of FEC SEs to wear off. Just look at alto, climbing mountains now when a few months ago she couldn’t climb up three stairs!
(Did I really say “just” in respect of FEC? Really?!)
2-3 weeks should do it and the up side is food will taste wonderful! We went to our local Indian for the first time since chemo started and it was like having a curry for the first time! Quickly put on 4 lbs but back on sensible diet now!
Thanks for the feedback ( pardon the pun!!) I have hardley eaten anything for the last 10 days, I’m wasting away…NOT… however I do feel weak and grumpy??? I hope to recover sooner rather than later as most of you know I have that holiday of a lifetime looming… will be on the plane in 3 weeks!!! XXXX
I was wondering the same thing myself today. I had my last TAX 9 days ago and have no appetite for anything at the moment cos it all still tastes horrible. Can’t see any weight dropping off though unfortunately! As soon as my taste buds come back I’m going for a slap-up end-of-chemo meal!
I finished my chemo yesterday, 3 fec and 3 tax. I found it took a good two weeks to get my easte buds back on 1st tax, and just 1 week on second. i guessed the problem was mostly with the oral thrush i got. Onc has given me differnt stuff for it this time, once a day pill this time rather than 4 times a day sryup. so hopefully this time round my tastebuds wont be gone for long.
Well done to us all!
Hi Charlotte - My Oral Thrush has been really harsh this time, still got it now but nothing is tasting VILE now, it’s now just a bit weird which is easier to deal with.
Yesterday I bought a big salad with no dressing on and some Atlantic Prawns from M&S (I know we’re not supposed to have shellfish but b*gger it) and ate the lot without any total disgust.
Still not right yet though and chocolate still tastes horrible.
However, yesterday I went into town as I had the car and I bought 2 boxes of Thorntons chocolates that were on sale and they are now lurking in my cupboard waiting for my taste buds to go back to normal. Then I’m going to take them to bed ;-D LOL.
I also bought a bottle of Rioja Blanco wine, ready for when i feel better.
Once I’ve allowed myself a week of indulgence and decadence I’m going to start behaving myself and trying to shift this weight, I hate the huge chins I’ve developed since treatment and I look appalling. I’m not feeling good about myself and I need to change that.
