Rippling effect inreconstructed breast

Hi everyone I had an LD reconstruction a couple of years ago and since the beginning I have this noticeable area on th etop of the breast which looks like a water bed and ridged.

My surgeon said that they may replace the implant with a different type.

Anyone else had this ripppling effect.

Hi, Yes I have. I had my reconstruction done last February with a permanent expander implant. It was topped up over last year and the final top up was done in June. Since then it has been ok-ish although sometimes it has felt as though it was moving upwards. However, since about November time I have noticed that the top of the breast has hollows, very noticeable sometimes, and yes the waterbed effect. I’m just glad it has started doing this when I’m wrapped up in thick jumpers - not a good look in the summer! I’m seeing my surgeon on Friday 14th so want to know what he will suggest. To be honest I really don’t want to have the implant removed as it is still soft and did look and feel real until recently. I’ll let you know what he says.

Hello Ladies,

I am about to have a reconstruction in March with an temp expander and the silicones. I have read a few ladies saying that they had the liposuction also over a silicone. I am wondering if that will help with the rippling. I intend to ask my surgeon this question also.

Best wishes

Hi, I saw my surgeon yesterday and he is going to take the permanent expander implant out and replace it with a silicone one. Apparently the rippling happens when a)breast is originally small and the muscle is fairly near the surface, b) you are slim and c) its just hard luck if that’s how it lays. So sorry, not very helpful at all. Even getting a new implant won’t necessarily stop the the rippling as I am all of the above. I don’t know about lipo filling as it isn’t an option with me and so was never mentioned.
All in all I am a bit annoyed I have to lose the implant and go through more surgery etc etc, and still may end up with the same problem.
If your surgeons say anything different, please let me know.
