Rock hard after mastectomy

Going through breast cancer treatment Surgery

Hi, I had a lumpectomy, re-excision and then mastectomy (7 weeks ago).

My ‘flat boob’ is now rock hard and feels tight. I have good range of movement and have kept up the exercises. I did have a large Seroma that was drained twice but this hardness is very odd.

I’ve been massaging in cream after washing. I might call the helpline tomorrow but any ideas if this is somewhat ‘normal’?!

I’m afraid I’ve nothing to offer on whether what you’re experiencing is normal, but if you think something feels off, I would definitely give your BCN a call.

Hey @mrs_sunflower I had mastectomy 11 weeks ago and my flat side has always been rock hard, it’s taken some getting used to but my surgeon has said it’s all healing well. If you are concerned I would ring the BCN and they won’t mind checking it for you x take care hope you’re ok :two_hearts:

8 weeks after my lumpectomy here and the wound site has healed beautifully but is only softening now if that helps?

I had that same weird board-like feeling for weeks and kept thinking something had gone wrong. For me it slowly eased up around the two month mark, partly after my nurse tweaked my exercise routine. If anything feels sharper or suddenly different, I’d ping your breast care nurse, but from what you describe it sounds a lot like the normal slow thaw after surgery.
