Hi,
Today I went for a mammogram and then the doctor did an ultrasound and biopsied the lump I had that is a 2cm hard lump. She also found calcification and is sending a picture of it to another specialist for an opinion on the calcification.
The biopsy was really rough, the doctor I think wanted to take a core needle biopsy and she tried to but couldnt seem to get any tissue, I think the needle wouldnt go in and she kept tryin and I was surprised how rough it was. It was alot of pushing and shoving and I was surprised as I expected it just to be a needle gliding in and out a few times, bt it involved a huge effort it seemed and alot of quite hard sort of punching into my chest.
Eventually a fine needle biopsy had to be done to get any tissue which was got fine, but I wondered if anyone else had a rough biopsy like that, is it normal for it to be so rough, it didnt hurt as in it was numb, just rough you know, not that she was being mean or anything, it just seemd to take alot of exertion for her to do and I was surprised that it was so rough, and wonderd if that is normal or just because it was obviously a very tough lump that needed extra effort. I feel really bruised this evening.
Hi
I know how it feels! It can be very difficult to get a good sample of the breast lump and they can try several times. It can also be painful if they stray away from the part that’s been locally anaethesised (sp?) as I also found out. Expect a huge bruise this morning.

Hi, thanks, I actually feel much better this morning after a good nights sleep, I think the biopsy was just very mentally disturbing, it was not painful, well only at first, but she put some more anaesthetic in.
I only have to wait till Friday for the results and I feel quite confident that it will just be a fibroadenoma, I think that the fact it was so hard to get a sample from, she said that she “could not get any purchase”, indicates that it was rubbery maybe, which might be a good sign.
Obviously I am a little concerned and have searched the internet and this website for information, I am hoping it is just a fibroadenoma, because I do not think I could be as strong as some of the ladies on this forum whose stories I have been reading.
Good luck for Friday and I hope it turns out to be benign.
