Running/ cycling/ hard exercise after recovered from chemo - DOMS?

Hi all - a question for those of you who are post chemo & getting back into harder training…  Before BC (diagnosed Sept 2014, 2 x lumpectomy, 6 x FEC, radio - finished May 2015) I cycled at national TT level & frequently suffered from DOMS - especially if I cross trained or did HARD races…I stopped competitive cycling & haven’t gone back but I have now started running (SLOW but dogged as my weight/ build is nt conducive to fast running  ) and am doing a tough circuit class 1 x weekly, fitpump 1 x weekly & running 3 x weekly on top of my job that involves lots of standing… Whatever I do, I rarely now seem to suffer from DOMS…  I did the 40 mile Grim Reaper endurance run at the end of July and my physiotherapist friend was amazed at how agile I was the next morning - very little stiffness. Up til now I thought I was maybe just being very good with stretching & epsom salt baths etc but a couple of unrelated conversations make me wonder if chemo DOES affect our DOMS…  Maybe Lance Armstong was right & his chemo DID make him able to hurt himself more in training & racing? & recover quicker…? I’m not saying exercise doesn’t make me tired - it does, & joints that are overused ache - but actual muscle soreness is nowhere near what I would expect…  Any comments?  PS  I’m on Tamoxifen & it took a while for me to get used to the brand that works best for me (joint pain etc), but now I’ve got used to that & not as affected.

Hi, I came on here in search of anyone experiencing the lack of DOMS after exercise and was excited to see your post.  Unfortunately, reading the details in your post I’m guessing that you are my friend the massage therapist and we both know each other and have already shared our problem and thoughts! Small world LOL

How funny (assuming you are who I think you are CE) but I’m surprised and disappointed that there have been no other replies. Surely we can’t be the only ones to have this experience.!  Or maybe my dreams came true and chemo has given us our own superpower!  Here’s a blog I posted in 2010 and reposted recently -  wiggysworld.blog/2017/03/03/souper-powers/

I don’t know if my reply will boost this back to the top and perhaps attract others who have the same muscle response to exercise but if not, at least you and I can compare notes!

Hi Testrix & Josi,
Maybe it’s just me, but what is DOMS?
Sorry to see there hasn’t been much of a response, but there are certainly others here who do sports, so it’s an interesting point to raise. Would like to know more!
