I noticed today in the paper the Next summer sale starts tomorrow. I was amazed a couple of years ago to see that it opens at around five in the MORNING and some people queue up hours before hand to get what exactly?? A blouse half price?? Is it really worth it!!!
Does anyone go to the sales, and have you ever got up at silly oclock to get a bargain. I know these days people don’t tend to queue for sales, but about thirty years ago it would not have been strange to see people queuing outside a department store for two days before to get a cheap telly! So have you ever in your life got up at silly oclock to get a particular item?
No I have not! If I haven’t bought clothes earlier in the season, I don’t see that I would want them at all. I can’t even bring myself to rummage in TK Maxx.
Nope - not worth it for clothes and Next don’t do much in my size anyway! I do sometimes get up at silly o’clock to do the Xmas food shop, in particular the blinking turkey - like 4am, but that’s only so I can do it whilst the store is relatively quiet! And I get home and back to bed for 6am for another couple of hours kip!
You guys going to give me a hard time for this??? You going to Next at 5am ramorra?
Its amazing how many people queue and fight for the stuff. My friends daughter works in Harrods and she says quiet often it actually gets violent where people are grabbing and pushing each other etc trying to a particular item. I really would not lower myself to behave like that, but I guess if people want something badly they will do anything to get it.
TKMAXX, I don’t get that shop, to me its just a messy jumble sale. I know peope say you can get good bargains, but everytime I go in there it looks a right mess and I walk right out again. It reminds me of a more expensive Primark lol
Primark is bad enough too! I agree completely with the TK Maxx - sometimes you are lucky, usually it’s a mess and I just get stressed and leave. Usually leaving daughter behind too as I sit in my car and sulk!
lol if I am in Next at 5 it will be FIVE in the evening!!! I might get out of bed earlyish for a boot sale, but not for shopping no way!!! I must admit, its probably sensible to get up early for the christmas food, otherwise its murder, and people are buying like we are just about to have a famine! In fact I find the panick buying thing really over the top and soooooooo uneccessary considering the shops are open boxing day now, but early to beat the crowds is good idea!!
Yes I must admit, I get really grumpy the day before Christmas eve, if we have not got our food and the isles are choca block with trolleys, hubby says chill its fine, it will get done, I just stressed and stroppy (Prob has something to do with I have probably had a good drink the night before at a work do, and have the hang over from hell)!!! Infact this year it was the Sat after my work do and I had wine and southern comfort in double figures the night before and not much sleep!!! so yes a grumpy old bag!! lol
Hi, I picked my daughter up straight from her coach and hit the sales yesterday. I love shopping with her she is a size 10 and looks great in almost anything. I think it’s all the things I would have loved to have worn but because I’ve spent the majority of my adulthood overweight not been able to. We had a real girly time, the sales were more like they used to be years ago when things had real reductions. My girls do call me a professional shopper and say I should get a job as a personal shopper because I love it so much. However I draw the line at queueing from 5 in the morning and I never go to the New Year sales, I couldn’t stand the crush.
Jules like you I don’t enjoy the Xmas food shop but I do as your husband suggests and put my chill out head on when queueing. I just need to master the fact that I do not need 5 choices of everything just in case someone calls in, like you say the shops are open the next day.
Caz x
I have only ever done the Next sale once and not at any ridiculous time of the morning. Bought heaps of stuff very cheap but when I got home realised it all had buttons missing / seams open / marks on etc so have never bothered since. Most of the stuff is directory returns and looks like its already been worn.
Also have no idea what TKMaxx is all about, dont get it at all, rails and rails of junk!!
Primark is Ok for accessories, umbrellas, pj’s etc although my daughter gets stuff from there and manages to look great [me jealous nooooo]
Caz, My girls would just love you. I HATE shopping and the best I can do is drop them off with money and pick them after.
As a child my Mum used to take me ‘Window shopping’ for hours. What the hell is the point of window shopping?
Chrissie
I have jut got back from Next!!! I went at half ten which was a sensible hour! I stayed an hour and got some nice toiletries to cheer up my mum, some shoes (three pairs) hubby calls me Imelda Marcos lol and stuff for hubby ie shorts etc for our Mexico trip in two weeks time. I also bought a pair of white linen trousers which were half price and look lovely!
You do get some good bargains, but the pushing and shoving in there has made me feel shattered!
At chrissie, omg I hate window shopping, I like to get in there with all the goodies lol
Caz, the trouble is I am usually nursing a hangover and I am like Vodka so bad tempered when people ram me with there trolleys and usuall don’t even say SORRY!!! LOL
Just finished my shopping at the Next sale, but did mine online with a nice cup of tea - no shoving or pushing - gosh whatever did we do before the internet. Jacqui
lol oh no now you have got me thinking, maybe I will go and check out the website too now…oh dear more money lol I spent £240 this morning already, hmmmm shall I or shan’t I decisions lol xxxxx
Too skint to buy these days so I’m glad I kept a ‘Too fat to wear bag’ since losing so much weight from sheer worry I now have a new wardrobe. Every cloud eh?
