saline implant

Hello

Is their anyone out there who has had mastectomy with immed reconstruction using tissue expansion with saline imlant, that was gradualy expanded inserting saline into the port.

I had the mastectomy and recon in Oct 09, and have been going back to have the implant gradually filled, what my question is can anyone tell me roughly how long their implant took to drop to be more in line with their natural breast, only I have found so far that mine hasn’t dropped, I have an appointment tomorrow with my breast surgeon, before starting radiotherapy next week, I have had quite a few fills and was hoping that now it would start to look more like a breast.

thanks ann

Hi angels - sorry i can’t answer your question - but i’ll await your replies with interest. I’ve had exactly the same op but no expansions done yet due to the wound taking a time to heal. So very interested in the question you ask. Hope you get an answer. Any cahnce you could pm me re what the breast consultant says tomorrow. Much appreciated

Hi
I also had same op in Jan & had some saline put in last week for the first time.

When my BC nurse came to explain the op with her bag of pictures etc. She explained that my Recon breast will not actually drop but will stay ‘pert’.

She did show my pictures of people who had the op to see the difference between normal breast & recon so that I would be aware of the look & appearance after the op i.e. one higher than the other.

She also confirmed I could have an uplift on my good breast but I am not sure if I want to do this as I am sure over time it will begin to sag again.
Maybe a good idea to discuss this with your BC nurse.
Best wishes
Susan

Sorry can’t help particularly but would also be very interested to know, as I had this op mid February. No saline injections as yet as everything is too swollen.
However, I was told that the expander was better than a straight implant as it could create droop and could be matched more closely to the original. I certainly wasn’t told this would give me two mismatched boobs, pointing in different directions!!
I’d be very interested to hear of any other experiences with this.

Hi I have a saline expander and didn’t have many injections. I then had an op to make a fold in the skin to make it more natural looking. It is higher than my good one and not the success I’d hoped for. Very disappointing.

hi
I had this done in 1999 and it doesn’t drop,

I went to the breast clinic yesterday, and he checked the implant prior to starting radiotherapy next week,

Basically if is going to drop then it will be within the year from the operation which in my case is october, if i get capsular contracture during and after radiotherapy or it still feels hard and not dropping, then it will still be replaced, using a silicone and not saline implant.
