Scalp Tender

Hi

I have woken up this morning with a very tender scalp is this normal? Even my hair hurts.

Is this one of the first signs for losing your hair as I am waiting for this one.

I am due to have my second chemo (epirubicin) on Wednesday.

Going to start using the baby shampoo now.

Thanks
Sharon

Hi Sharon

My scalp was very tender just before my hair started to come out which was just 2 weeks after starting EC, it does go away eventually.

Cant pretend its nice when your hair falls out, no matter how prepared you are for it, I thought I was but just cried all day when it started so decided to get hubby to shave it off, that felt so much better when I got over the initial shock

Hope you keep well

Linda

HI Linda

Thanks for that.

I have just had a shower and washed guess what some of the hair has come out. Still a shock even though I was expecting it.

Contacting my hairdresser to get it shaved off tomorrow and then she will tidy the wig up - only going to wear this for work.

Head gear all washed and waiting to be worn.

Hope you are okay

Sharon

Hi, Sharon and Linda!
You ladies are so brave to shave your hair off!
I have cut mine really short and had a cold cup during my first chemo-that worked, but I could not face it for five more times, so after the second Epirubicin, during the third week after treatment the sculp did hurt a lot (and still does). I am now retaining petty remnants of my hair on the top of my head and very thinly eveyrwhere else. I am constantly wearing little cotton hats and the hair that get into them and that I drop everywhere really annoy me, but still no will power to shave it all off. I am just into my fourth day after the third chemo and finding it a lot harder than the first two. Maybe after I recover a bit I will find the courage to shave off my pathetic little leftover hair…
Hope you both are OK.
Take care
Irina

Hi Sharon

I’m 17 days post my first FEC (next dose due Thursday), and my scalp was like this from the beginning of the week

By Tuesday I’d noticed my pubic hair was shedding (no bikini wax for me then!), and by Wednesday my hair was following so I had it cropped to a #2. This morning I was staring to get really patchy bits on the side where I sleep, so I’ve got it all shaved off

Hope it’s not too sore for long, I actually feel quite liberated at the moment having no hair, but then I’m probably weird!

Hiya to you all

I too have a sore scalp and everytime I run my hands through my hair a little more falls out. Having it all shaved off tomorrow morning but feel really low, worse than I was when first diagnosed, hope I will fell better when it has gone! My second chemo also on Thursday of this week, amazing how consistant it is faling out when predicted!!

Love to all

Hi Sharon, sounds like exactly what happened to me…thought I was getting away with it until sore scalp the week before second epi, then one evening in the shower 2 days before epi it all came out at once! I looked like the abominable snowman with hair all over my body, laughing and crying at the same time! I had to unblock the plughole 4 times. It starts growing back after the last one, so chin up.
Its lovely not doing all the hair messing around every morning, or underarms or legs…

Love and good luck, Zoe

Thank you ladies

Yes they predicted it well.

Does any one put any cream on their head? if so what do you use.

Many thanks for your replies.

Please take care and good luck to you all.

Sharon

Well, after it all fell out I had this brilliant idea to rub my scalp generously with tea-tree oil (attempting a natural cure for dandruff). It was a strange tingly sensation and I smelled a strange mouldy-ness all night, but it didnt make any diff!!
Getting a bit worried about my old man - he really likes my 2mm hair, think he wants me to keep it this short…hmmm

Hope this makes you girls laugh a bit.

p.s I think some people put almond oil on their scalp.

The one thing I thought would be best to use when I started losing my hair was the thing I was told NOT to use - baby shampoo!! What I was advised to use is Aqueous Cream which can be bought in large tubs at boots and some supermarkets.

Hope this helps

Val

Hi there

I would agree, don’t use baby shampoo. I don’t think the ingredients are good for adult scalps. I just used soap on my head when it fell out and Aloe Vera Lotion to moisturise.

I hoope you are OK Sharon, it really is a traumatic time when the hair comes out.

Good night

Hi Ladies

I am at the waiting stage of hair falling out probably this weekend according to onc., have any of you read Pineapples thread she lost her hair after chemo and I think it was about 18 months until it grew back, dont mean to stress anyone out here but she said that using Brewers Yeast really helped it grow back. I asked my onc at my appt on friday and she said it couldnt do any harm to try it?

Hi to you

My head is now shaved and apparently I have a nice head so people tell me unless they are being nice to me.

Thank you for your replies, I must admit I have been using baby shampoo for my head but having read your replies I will go and get the Aqueous cream tomorrow.

I havent worn my wig yet as I dont really like it and I am only going to use it for work, but dont mine wearing the bandanas though.

Good luck to you all

Had my first FEC 3 days ago and used the cold cap and no sign yet but this is normal right?? My hubby is excited there are no signs yet but i’ve warned him there is time…god i thin it must be the most surreal part - don’t have a wig yet apart form a dodgy ebay one i won for 99p!!

I used the cold cap during my first treatment but my hair still started to fall out on day 16. Due my second treatment on Wednesday so I am not going to bother with cold cap as I have so many bald patches now there is no point.
I was really upset when I washed my hair yesterday and lost an awful lot of it , it just came out in hand fulls and I had to keep shifting it from the plug hole so it wouldn’t block it.
I think I will just shave the rest of it off if I can pluck up the courage. My scalp is also sore.
I got national health wig and have also bought an other better quality one to ware but I don’t have the confidence to go out in yet. I don’t have any head wraps yet.

Hi my hairdressers told me to still wash my head with a mild hair conditioner, i felt a right prat doing it with no hair but it did make my head feel better, the day my hair started to fall out i just got a friend to shave it all off, and didnt look back, however it was still abit upsetting when some of the stubble came out, i have got some of my hair back now but its come back very grey!!! oh well
