Scan results not what I expected

Scan results not what I expected Hi all, I have not posted in a long time but I read often. I just finished 6 taxotere and 6 courses of Xeloda tabs for 3 lesions in my liver and one in my lung (I also have secondary in bone in my pelvis). The scan results half way through chemo showed all lesions disappeared but one the largest but it had shrunk by 1cm (was 3.cm0 to start with). So going for the scan results yesterday after I finished chemo I expected to hear that my liver was clear. Unfortunately not. the same lesion is still there and has not shrunk anymore. Everything else is clear. I am deeply upset and now the Onc says that I have to continue on Xeloda but my thinking is if these tabs plus Taxotere did not shrink it how will that tabs do this on their own. No other proceedures or chemo were offered they said my disease was stable. Please does anyone else have similar experience as my hope is failling big time. I am 37 years of age and have been battling this disease since I was 34.

Many thanks

Im scared too Hello Lavender
I to have liver mets , lung mets and bone mets. I have been on Herceptin alone for 8 months now and have just recently been put on femera tabs . My last scan showed some progression on the liver and lung , its only slight but its a worry to me although my oncologist doesn,t seem to be worried. He said i will have to start xeloda shortly , i am really dreading going back on chemo , so i have asked for a referral to the royal marsden for other options or trials , i am very scared now i have been so well and now i feel as tho its down hill because of the progression . I only have bone symptoms and have just had a 5 day course of radiotherapy to my neck, hip, and shoulder blade. I do know what you must be feeling . Life just isn,t the same for us anymore is it . Take care love carolm x

Lavendrer,

See my other posts. My wife is exactly the same as you but her spine and hip damage is very bad.

The xeloda DOES work really well, the taxotere seems to stop the lung mets and whilst the Xeloda does not shrink mets in the liver it DOES most certainly put the brakes on hard. How long for we do not know but my wife is here 6 months after they said she would not be and today her doctor told her that her bloods were "incredible "

DO NOT give up hope.

I’ve got two liver lesions that aren’t shrinking, I just have to be grateful that they aren’t growing because “stable” is better than nothing. However at a case review some other doctor mentioned that my mets might not be cancer at all, they might be Haemangioma which is a benign blood-filled cyst. These cysts aren’t affected by chemo which might explain why nothing is shrinking! My oncologist is referring me for a special kind of very detailed CT scan to double check what is actually going on in my liver.

I’m not going to get my hopes up - it’s highly likely that they really are mets. My overall diagnosis won’t change because I definitely have mets in my bones.

I don’t want to give you false hope, but perhaps you could ask your oncologist about getting a better CT or maybe a MRI to examine your liver more closely.
