Scanxiety

Hi all,

Ive recently been diagnosed with breast cancer (February). Initially it started as DCIS but after mammogram it was upstaged to invasive cancer but consultant said nodes were clear. Got called in a week before my surgery for an unexpected ultrasound and biopsy of lymph nodes and was confirmed 3 days before the op that it had spread to nodes as well.

Had a mastectomy with full node clearance and got results last week. Consultant has said that 23/24 nodes were infected and they requested a full body scan to check for spread. I’m now waiting to find out results but consultant said he wouldn’t be surprised to see it somewhere else in the body. I’m 28 years old, have a 22 month old at home and am absolutely petrified for my results. Really concerned that they are going to tell me it’s spread and I won’t see my baby grow up. Anyone else had a similar experience or have any positive stories to share?

I feel for you; waiting for results is such a rotten time, imagining the worst.  Keep as busy as possible, play with your child and keep your mind occupied on anything not related to BC.  Let’s hope the results turn out well for you.

Hi Jenna,

So sorry you find yourself here, but welcome & sending hugs.

You are not alone in being younger & going through this & there are others here with young children. Whatever the outcome, there is loads of support here & when you have your treatment plan, do look at the ‘going through treatment’ part of the forum.

Do look at the main bcc site, where there’s loads of advice & info & there is the helpline here if you’d need to talk things through.
