SCAP Flap/ hip flap

Hi all

just wondering if anybody has experience of this type of reconstruction.
I had bilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction with implants in 2007 - Am due to see a plastic surgeon in manchester to discuss my options - it has been suggested i think about having bilateral SGAP hip flaps- they will do them three months apart. any advice comments appreciated

Hi Ruth

I’ve had one IGAP so far which is similar - due to have another but low iron right now so they won’t do it until my blood is sorted. The operation is tough and recovery quite long. It was a 9 1/2 hour operation and the first few days were the hardest and then it’s all up hill - most importantly plan to really really take it easy and rest after. I was in hospital for a week.
If you have any specific questions please do ask.

Hi Ruby
thanks so much for replying.
I am interested to know about any potential problems - has your mobility been compromised? have you had any other reconstruction before this proceedure? or radiotherapy ( I have had radiotherapy) Are you pleased with the result ? what cup size have you been given.
was it hard to make the decision?
sorry - loads of questions
thanks again
Ruth

Hi
Just seeing if Ruby is around
cheers Ruth

Hi Ruth
Sorry didn’t see this earlier hope you get to read this and haven’t given up on me!

Re mobility no - it’s all fine although I’ve just posted on another thread to somebody else called Scone about the operation. The back of my leg from my knee up to the crease in my bottom is numb but it doesn’t affect my mobility. I did have a few nerve problems initially but that seems to have more or less sorted itself out. I hadn’t had the other side reconstructed although still plan to do so. I had radiotherapy but the side that I’ve have the op on wasn’t the side that had breast cancer - that was preventative surgery so I can’t help with that although I do know that when I have the affected side reconstructed I will need a skin graft as the skin has been compromised and won’t cope.

Overall, I am very pleased with the result - I may have a few tweaks to fill a bit here and there but what the surgeon has done is fab - almost like an implant - it’s harder than normal breast tissue and it doesn’t move much so don’t need a bra! That’s the upside. I’m around a B cup now or rather a 32b or 34c which is great and very manageable. I can’t wear underwire bras though.

Hope this all helps.
I will bookmark/save this conversation so I don’t miss you next time.
