Scar - how long before it fades?

Hello

I’ve already had lumpectomy. I tend to check my scar daily. Not sure why, probably paranoid.

Just curious, from those that are further down the line. When does the scar loose its redness? It’s not infected, just dark pink along the incision line.

It’s not in a noticeable position and frankly, I’m not bothered if anyone was to see it, there are more important things to worry about!

Just curious
Thanks Sal :slightly_smiling_face:

Good morning Sal,

Pleased to hear you surgery is over, scars can take time to fade away, I have very sensitive skin so takes a little long to heal, maybe some bio oil would help with the redness.

Wishing you well, and very well done for being so positive.

Hugs Tili :pray::rainbow::pray::rainbow:

I had surgery in March (7 and a half months ago) and the scars are looking less bold and angry now. I used cream every day for months and still do many days. I did have 4 weeks radiotherapy which really put back the scar healing though.

Hi Sal

I had a lumpectomy and SLNB in April. I used to also be a little bit paranoid about my scars, particularly the one in my armpit which is visible when I am lifting my arms at the gym and, quite irrationally, I thought everyone would notice (as if anyone else is that interested in my armpit, haha!). It’s still pink but nicely healed and neat same as the one under the crease on my boob. Love your positive attitude. x

Hi sal1,
I had a lumpectomy & nodes removed in April, then an excision in May. I used loads of moisturiser twice a day, my scars are barely visible now. I’m 76.

Thank you ladies.

I’ll go with an average of 6+ months before it might start lightening up.

Thanx

My scars lessened after 7/8 months but I’m very pale skinned and the pink scar line was visible for quite a long time. I’m now 16 months and they are very pale and silvery, you have to move in the light to see them.

I used bio oil, there is a similar but very much less expensive Ren Gen oil available and Rosehip oil can also help.

A wonderful charity called Penny Brohn do an online scar therapy workshop that I found very helpful. For new and old scars. It’s on zoom, looks like the next 3 session starts in January.

Hope this helps :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

My SNLB scar disappeared really quickly probably within a couple of months though a small mole appeared on it - which is quite common apparently. I wasn’t sure my lumpectomy scar was going to fade at the bottom end as the skin looked slightly mismatched there but after about 6 months it was a redline and 2 and a half years later it’s a fine faint line xx .

I’ve had two surgeries. The first one was really neat, and barely noticeable, because the join was sooo good. But I had to have a reexcision which doesn’t look as good. I have a little lumpy bit that looks like a mole, but it’s a bobble of skin where the stitches were tied off. I hope that flattens, otherwise it’s going to be a challenge to shave in the future :scream:
X

Hello @sal1

How long’s a piece of string? It really does depend on you. General guidance is a scar will be the best it become after 2 years. I know this as I’ve scars all over and my last surgeon confirmed what I had seen on mine.

However, a scar in an area that’s not moved much will take much less time. So a breast scar will look better quicker than a knee replacement scar.

My mastectomy scar lost its redness after a few months and after less than a year was pale, even silvery.
