Scared about breast cancer

I am scared about breast cancer and I have no one I can currently talk to about my fears as I don’t have a lot of friends.

A couple of weeks ago I was experiencing pain in my left breast - I put it towards the fact I just had my period. But it has been a couple of weeks and the pain is still there.

We have just lost my uncle to cancer under shocking circumstances so I currently feel a little alone as my whole family is currently in mourning. I know I should go and see a doctor but I’m a little scared. Advice someone

Hi AD

Sorry you are feeling so scared - very understandable given what you have said about your uncle. So sorry for your loss.

Although pain is not usually seen as a symptom of breast cancer, I believe that that any concerns about our breasts of whatever sort should be taken to the gp. I know you are scared that you might have breast cancer, but equally it would be good to be reassured that you haven’t got it. Your gp may be make a referral to the breast clinic, which is not scary. Many symptoms turn out not to be cancer at all, but some do. Only some advice from medical professionals can put your mind at rest. If you do have breast cancer, take it from all of us on here that it is treatable. Please do go and have a chat to your gp, otherwise you will continue to worry. X

Thank you Optimissy64. I will make an appointment at the gp for this morning hopefully.

Meanwhile I’ve been feeling the painful area quite a bit, trying to see if what I feel is a lump - I can’t tell. But it is painful when I touch it - I’m hoping it’s nothing but still worried, even more so with what we’ve all just gone through.
