It seems to me there is a huge amount of screamongering when it comes the complementary therapies. I think that it’s up to us - the cancer victims - to decide for ourselves how we deal with our treatments. If something improves our sense of well-being, what’s the problem? The medical profession generally seem to reject the use of complementaries whilst on chemo or other cancer treament programmes. Why? Is there actual proof that complementaries cause problems?
In my experience, I feel better, I stay healthier and keep the cancer at bay when taking comps of my choice. If I left it all to the drugs, I know I would be a physical and emotional wreck - been there - got the T shirt!
Do what suits you best and if you don’t want complementaries, that’s fine but please don’t slag off those who do.
Capriati with love and good vibes to all xxx
Hi Captiati well said and I couldn’t agree more. I am a few years down the line and have found Reiki, reflexology and kinieisiolgy all to be helpful. It is SO important to keep on top of things mentally and we should all do whatever we find helpful and beneficial to us. It is good to set time aside for ourselves and important to do things for us it also helps us to feel in control x
The reason is because chemo destroys the liver and interferes with its function and some complimentary therapies put the liver under even more strain. If you have a side effect due to a complementary therapy the drs cannot be sure if it was the therapy or chemo at fault therefore chemo will be stopped immediately and therefore delaying trestment. For this reason drs prefer you to go down one route only,- I love in Hong Kong so if we get treated by Western medicine we are told not to consult the Chinese doctors for alternative treatments. To me, this makes sense but it’s up to you if you want to take the risk - I chose not to.
Hi, I agree with Jayne. There is a big difference between complimentary and alternative. Complimentary can work alongside treatment. When I was having chemo I visualised a pack - man going round my body munching up any cancer cells lol. All very harmless but alternative, don’t get me started on that. I’ve known two ladies, one turned to alternative when she was diagnosed with mets and the other had primary BC but refused all treatment and took the alternative route. Both were convinced that their cancer could be cured and sadly both were very wrong ?
