Hi my wife has just been to see the oncoligist and he want to send her for a scan of her legs and hips as she has been haveing a lot of pain over the last few months can someone please tell me what to look for or what sort of pain this cancer causes and does it make the leg few hot? she says dont worry that all right for her but i do.dougal
Hi Dougal
You don’t mention whether your wife already has a diagnosis of breast cancer.
I would imagine the oncologist is wanting to do a scan to eliminate the possibility of secondaries. It’s very hard to give a one answer reply to your question as we all have had varying degrees of pain, even with bone secondaries so I’m a bit reluctant to say more as you’re obviously very concerned about your wife and the possibility of it being secondaries.
Breast Cancer Care and some of the other charities offer a helpline if you want to talk to someone about your worries which might help you.
Good luck and I hope your wife will be okay.
Regards

Hi pinkdove
my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer 4 year ago and was on the verge of being signed off by the cancer doctor at the end of this year with one more vist to the oncologist at the start of next year. while with were at the hospital my wife said that her legs were sore so the oncologist said that he would sort out a scan.
Dear dougal
Please feel free to call the helpline for advice about your query, the helpliners are specialist breast care nurses and as Pinkdove has said they will be able to offer you information and support. The number is 0808 800 6000, Mon-Fri 9am-5pm and Sat 9am-2pm.
Kind Regards

Dougal;
I have bone mets to hip and femur bones. The pain I felt was a deep aching and a hot or burny feeling. But, I understand that some chemo treatments (like Taxol) can damage bone causing arthritis which has very similar symptoms to mets.
Stay positive…

hi JanetK
Thanks for your words of wisdom my wife was on taxol when she had her chemo so I hope this is all that it is I wish the oncol had old us that bit it would have put my mind at rest a bit and I feel sure it it would stop my wife from dweling on it as well even when she says she is not. we are both staying possitive that the outcome wll be something of nothing.
Doug
HI Dougal
It sounds as though your wife has a very good doctor as my spine mets took nearly 9 months to diagnose because my GP didn’t make the connection. I had a limp connected to the secondaries in my hip and ended up with a fracture in my spine but never had any burning feeling.
Good luck
Pinkdove
