Second DCIS

Hello I am 55yrs young according to my Bcn and consultant. I had my first DCIS in September 2012 55mm had a mastectomy with implant expander. Had yearly mammograms up until 2020 I believe and somehow nothing since then.

So in October I felt a thickening in my left breast, and slight change when raising my arm. Went to my GP who I thought was slightly dismissive but referred me anyway based on my history this was a fast track referral.

I don’t know about anyone else’s experiences but mine took 5wks still hadn’t told my husband or family at this point. November 5th had appointment and I was back and forth with mammogram and ultrasound then biopsy. So of course now I told my husband. We made a conscious decision not to tell our 4 grown children as our son was a new parent as well only a couple of weeks old.

Had to chase my results appointment and was told I was on a waiting list. Finally 5th December we were given the results but you already know. Although the consultant breezed in so we found cancer believing we already knew.

This time we were told it was DCIS with micro invasion so a little sneaky. I told the consultant straight I wanted a mastectomy. This is when we told our children.

So now we are at 9weeks from referral I had MRI and CT another biopsy was booked then cancelled because the MDT did not see the need my consultant was not present.

Appointment with my consultant on 2nd Jan was prescribed Lexatrole and Adcal and a new request for vac biopsy -had to chase that appointment.

I was given the results of that on 23rd Jan showing only DCIS however consultant said he is following 1st biopsy results. MRI and CT scan were clear except my implant is failing on the right hand side.

So because I have requested everything under one operation they are saying the delay in surgery is because I want this and they need more theatre time. I now have my date of 5th March, so that will be 22wks from referral

Due to my age and no family history I have had the genetic testing and am waiting the results.

Dexa scan done - No results

Has anyone else had such long delays I feel this isn’t right and that I shouldn’t be angry, frustrated or anxious because it’s ‘only dcis’ and according to a friend there’s light at the end of the tunnel because I have a date. (Last time was 9wks from referral to surgery)

But now I feel like the lump has changed and that area aches occasionally.

Thank you for reading and sorry it’s so long
