Currently waiting for my 2ww appointment. I’ve been on this pathway before and luckily that was benign changes (no lump, just incidental findings of calcification in my right boob after having some burning in my left). This turned out to be sclerosing adenosis on stereo core biopsy.
This time it’s different, I have a “large grape/small golf ball” hard smooth lump in my right boob, (on the side, heading towards the under boob) it seems like it’s just popped up overnight which is crazy. Or maybe I’ve just not noticed it, but I’m usually quite savvy when it comes to knowing how they change each month. I am a front and side sleeper though and I’m pretty sure I would have noticed the lump sooner if it had been there. I do have large boobs so it’s not noticeable just by looking but it’s easily palpable.
The only date I was given for my clinic appointment is a date slap bang in the middle of when we’re away on holiday, (5th August) and I’ve spoken to the breast unit to see if anything can be done. If not then my 2ww will be pushing more like 4 weeks. My family are desperate for some time away after a bit of a crap year, but I know the appointment is really important too, so I’m feeling very torn.
So for the moment I’m in a bit of limbo while I wait for some info back. Since finding the lump its become really painful, possibly from all the poking and prodding, I’m also due on my period in about 4 days so I’m assuming that will have something to do with it. I’m sat with a hot water bottle on it trying to get some relief, and monitoring whether or not it changes size.
I’m a bit worried about the mammogram mainly, it’s already really painful so I imagine squishing it more is going to be horrid.
I work in a pathology lab so I’m well aware of the things it could and couldn’t be, but it’s not cancer until I’m told it’s cancer, so that’s my mantra for the moment. And if it is, then cancer care has come on leaps and bounds over the years.
Will update when I know more. Hope everyone out there waiting for appointments and results etc are doing ok
That’s a really sensible approach to have. If you proke and prode
It will become sore, and then our mind goes
into overdrive. Try and push for another date if you can so you can so you can go on holiday.
Really hope its nothing to worry about. Please keep in touch. xx
Welcome to the forum, were you will find some the best information from the people who have been there and understand how your feeling.
As you said you need to wait until your consultation confirms your results this is a difficult time for you, take one day at a time at the moment, make notes when anything comes into your head, as we all seem to forget the most important questions. Also let you breast cancer know you are in discomfort as this maybe an infection
I feel your family holiday is so important, as you have had a stressful year, fingers crossed another date will be available to you very soon
Wishing you well, enjoy your break with the family. Come back and let us know how you’re getting on.
Thanks both. I’ve logged into my NHS account today and spotted a couple of earlier appointment slots that appeared so I’m actually booked in for the 22nd July! Super lucky, i know appointments within two weeks are like gold dust, nevermind ones within a week.
At least the initial stuff will be done before we go away. I’ve had a lazy day with my hot water bottle and ice packs while the hubby and kids feed me snacks.
Will update you after my appointment. I’m hoping I get the same surgeon as last time, he was fabulous. Thanks again and best wishes to all x
Thankyou I’m staying positive. So much pain and swelling today in both sides while I was at work, I could rip the blooming things off. I swear I’m heading into perimenopause (I’m 46). Fingers crossed it’s cystic and there will be something to aspirate from the lump to make it more comfortable.
Will keep you posted, thanks for the good wishes x
