Second wide local excision

Morning everyone. I had a wide local excision on the 4th January and had 16.5mm of high grade DCIS removed. I’ve since been told they don’t have it all and I am booked in for another wide local excision surgery on the 1st February. The surgery involved lifting my nipple to remove the tissue and sewing it back on. Has anyone else been in this situation? Thanks x

They removed mine and reattached … I was told they they cut the upper layer of the skin … And then the section they needed to access they cut open. So in theory they didn’t completely remove

@947902 I’ve had four ops there so far. The first was December 2022 when they disconnected all the milk ducts from under my nipple. Sadly that just stopped the symptoms but not the cancer which was hiding away higher up one of my milk ducts. I had 39mm of intermediate and high grade DCIS when they found it in November 2023. Luckily I was still having symptoms so kept going back.

So I had a wide local excision in November 2023 which showed invasive Grade 2 cancer and they didn’t get all the DCIS out. Back into surgery in December 2023 for a second wide local excision and lymph node biopsy. Still he didn’t get all the DCIS out and cancer in 2 of the 3 lymph nodes so on Tuesday of this week (16th Jan 2024) I had a third wide local excision and all my lymph nodes removed from my right armpit. My nipple has been cut pretty much all the way round now and sewed up each time. It’s still ok, amazingly! I’m past caring at the moment as I’m told if he still hasn’t managed to remove all the DCIS then it’s a mastectomy which I begged for at the last appointment.

I hope and pray that both of us are sorted now with the surgery. I know the team at my hospital and say ‘Morning!’ to them like old friends when I stroll in now.

Hi there. Yes, I had exactly the same and 2nd time they got it all. It wasn’t at all troublesome and they “sorted” my nipple. It was left a teeny bit scewiff but nothing to bother about. I am sure it will be fine for you too - best of luck for a quick recovery :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
