Gormless stuff this week
£250 worth of Ikea tat for my daughter’s bedroom to replace the 6 bin liners of tat that went to cancer research
A pair of Asda FitFLops for my Xeloda feet that I can’t wear because the thong bit hurts (so another pair of cast-off shoes for my daughter)
BBQ with my Tesco vouchers though whether I get to use it this summer is anyone’s guess!
You will need it when you buy your Eriba!

Has there not been any Gormless shopping done by any of you ladies then? I am going to try to spend some pennies today on myself. I wonder what I wil come back with.V
Sorry, Val, I’ve been very non-gormless shopping wise over the last few months…Indulged in a couple of maxi dresses from M&S outlet last week, the long size version even though I’m 5’2" but Mum is taking them up for me in time for my hols this weekend. Otherwise, the only stuff I’ve bought has been a new front door, tiles and other ‘house’ or DIY stuff. Note to self - must do better!! I did think about getting some books on to my kindle even though I’ve about 20 waiting to be read on it and some ‘proper’ books to read too but stopped myself before doing any damage. You can make up for me!! x
I want a new front door! I don’t need one, so it would be completely gormless.
Can report some gormless t-shirt purchases for holiday in East Anglia (where it is chilly & raining, I believe), and some jeans with stars on. You can never have too many of those, I find.
Hope others have more to report . . .
xx
Wel just as I’m in the mood for some gormless shopping, I can’t! First I find that my credit card has “had its security compromised”, and I then discover that my debt card (which is also my cheque guarantee card) has expired - and all this at the start of a 4 day bank holiday weekend! My husband is 4,000 miles away, so I’ve had to resort to the Bank of Mum!
Total spending today - £2 on a magazine!!!

Hello ladies,
Am currently in steroid-induced insomnia mode and so spent the last couple of hours reading threads I haven’t checked out previously. The term ‘gormless’ attracted me to this one. Haven’t heard that word since I moved south 26 years ago. But ‘gormless’ is quite perfect for describing the retail behaviour we get into.
I have laughed so much at the posts on here. What a wonderful legacy we can leave, the joy of laughter.
When I was first diagnosed, I went into reverse gormlessness. Stopped all my shopping completely and determined to use stuff up. So all those dozens of bottles of pots and potions, all promising eternal youth, finally got a look in. My cancer head told me ‘you can’t leave all this tutt behind’. I worried about the books on the shelf still un-read, you know, the must-have airport 2 for the price of 3 lot; the clothes that had years of wear left in them and as for the shoes and boots…
I loaded the car up and took masses of stuff into Cancer Research.
This is where the gormless comes in… 2 weeks later, I was in Cancer Research buying it all back. The lady behing the counter remarked ‘You have been lucky today dear, finding so many things you like…’
Does that qualify for gormless?
Much love
Pixie xxxx
Yes Pixie, that is the idea! But just look on it as a wonderful example of giving money to charity! I am glad you have enjoyed reading the thread. I want to keep adding to it to keep it near the top of the posts for everyone to enjoy so please keep posting. It gives a lighthearted change from the other posts. Have you come across the thread anout “Benchland” yet? if you cannot find it come on here and I will bump it up for you. Love Val
Hi, have been lurking for a while but thought I would share with you what happened to me today. I live in Saudi Arabia where there are loads of very old traditional souks, I went down to the souk this morning to buy a cheap hessian shopping bag…walked past carpet shop and was drawn in, ended up spending a shed load of cash on a silk rug which I never knew I needed. Have hidden rug from The Husband, not too sure how to tell him!!! I ran out of money and never bought my shopping bag!
Love to you all from a very hot Saudi.xx
Well my story today is Bargain hunting story… not the gormless kind. I was in the M & S outlet shop. My friend bought a top (she is tiny) and picked it up for 99p. There was only one. I looked around and found one in my size but with a £2 99 sticker. I asked an assistant which price mine would come up at the til. She said that they were all 99p but there was an offer . If I coud find 2 of them the second one would be half price! They weren’t expensive to begin with but you know me by now. I love a bargain.
My friend however wasn’t in a shoppin mood but by the end of the afternoon she managed to buy 2 pair of leather shoes, one outdoor Regatta jacket, a linen dress, a linen long sleeved shirt, two tops, a cardigan and trousers. She said she hadn’t bought as much as this in the last year! So I was only helping a friend to become Gormless! Love t you, Val
Horsie, I lived in Riyadh for 5 years and just before I left, my husband had gone home to buy a house for us. I got a call from him to say “stone floors - buy carpets” and ended up buying 7 in 1 day! Essential - not gormless and they have served us well. One of the things I used to buy pretty much all the time was fabric and I now have so much that even if I were to live to a ripe old age, I would never get through it all! Missing the sunshine (and the A/C) and shopping into the early hours during Ramadan!
Ha ha! I’ll bet they loved you, The shop owners probably ate for a year on your cash!!! I live in Riyadh! On Arabian Homes compound, when did you return home and where did you live? I am having all my treatment at The King Faisal Specialist Hospital, managed to get a Royal warrant, so the king is paying for all my treatment. I am very glad I am out here as they treat secondary bc aggressively. They are throwing everything at me, and it’s working…so far… Is there anything that you really miss out here that you wish you’d brought home? ( apart from the sun!!) Love to all of you… xxx
I was in Riyadh from 1989-1994 working at RKH (military hospital). I lived on compound at the hospital and my (now) husband lived at airport village. We used to do the Thursday Hash (running not walking!) and did all the running, cycling, trialthlon events.
I actually didn’t bring that much crap home (surprisingly!) Apart from the carpets and a couple of small decorative doors, I had a couple of camel stools, a couple of those carved camel heads that spread out to make table legs, a gold bangle for every year I was in the middle east (5 for Riyadh, 2 for Baghdad and I was bought 2 by friends) and assorted copper vessels / boxes. My husband had bought some of those lovely colourful baskets from the place beginning with A (can’t remember) that everyone goes to. He also had some lovely Spencer Tart paintings but his ex took those.
One of the things I always fancied was one of those huge fur lined coats that people used to wear on cold race mornings. I also should have travelled more but my ex was a tightwad and we only ever went home to see his mum (in Cardiff so not so exotic!)
I imagine it has changed so much. One of my friends who is retired now used to go back every few months to do some work for one of the Princes to do with traffic flow around the city and said he hardly recognised the place when he was last there.
I was clearing stuff out the other week and found my posh abiyah which my daughter has commandeered.
Good to hear you are getting excellent treatment out there.

Val, what a good effort to convert your friend, well done Nice to see you are still bargain hunting, but is that truly gormless? I think you need to ask yourself
I haven’t been gormless shopping in ages as, absolutely everything has been essential, well, that’s what I tell OH.
Nice to see gormless shopping occurs around the world, there’s no escape LOL

Val,
I am glad you were unable to find this thread and that I was able to find it for you. I had never looked at it before and it cheered me up.
I started emptying my wardrobe after secondary diagnosis for anything I had not worn in a while to save the kids the hassle. Who was I kidding right!. Well now I need to empty it as I needs space for bigger clothes for fatter me!
Oh I’ve just found this gormless shopping thread and it’s cheered me so much! I’ve done loads since diagnosis, with new blinds, sofa and chair, and clothes too, all new. I just need retail therapy as much as my zometa. My iPad makes shopping so easy too…!! Glad to see I’m not alone…love the idea of silk carpets…!
cLEARED OUT MY WARDROBE SO LOTS OF SPACE NOW. SO BOUGHT 4 TOPS TODAY WHICH MADE ME FEEL JUST A TAD GORMLESS. ALL I NEED IS SOME DECENT SUN TO STRUT MY STUFF. I HOPE YOU GORMLESS LADIES ARE DOING OKAY AND HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND. I AM OFF IN MY CARAVAN TOMORROW. HUGS VAL. XX
Now teaching my Brother in Law to become gromless. He was in the Clarks Shoe shop. He could no longer get the shoes he wanted from the firm on line. So he saw the very shoes he wanted. he used to pay £65 plus postage for them but they were £24.99. So he picked up 2 pairs. I pointed out that for the pair he usually bought on line he could afford to buy 3 pairs. He said no…at first…then went back to get another pair. I am so proud that I have encouraged him to be Gormless. He is not on the BCC site but must encourage others to shop gormlessly! Any new buys anyone?
Earrings - I’ll say no more. I have a lot of pairs of earrings . . . and only two ears . . . xx
