Secondary breast cancer in stomach

Hi all

Posting on behalf of my amazing mum!

My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2013 (estrogen related) and she completed her treatment in 2014. She was cancer free and it was incredible.

In October of last year, my mum began experiencing stomach issues. She had blood tests done which were fine (apart from ca125 being slightly raised so bad scan on ovaries and that was clear and she also found out she was pre diabetic)

Dr’s then referred for colonoscopy and ct scan. This showed her colon was inflamed, biopsies were taken and all clear. Ct scan showed a stricture in her colon and inflamed lymph nodes in left collar bone (previous breast cancer was on right side) and inflamed abdominal lymph nodes.

They did a biopsy of collar bone node and showed it was cancerous.

My mum then had to have emergency surgery last week as she had a bowel blockage. She had to have a stoma fitted.

After the surgery, the Dr told us that there is a tumour inside her stomach and they couldn’t remove it as it would have caused too much damage. There are also spots on the outside of her bowel.

The Dr said they had taken biopsies and they were sure it was cancer. He said they were surprised by what they found and it was worse then they thought. He said its not curable but chemo can be given to help control it.

Sadly, the biopsy results came back this evening and it has been confirmed as secondary breast cancer in her stomach.

We are all obviously devastated but trying to be strong for mum.

Mum is worried they will say she can’t have chemo but she is very healthy otherwise.

Has anyone else had any experience of secondary breast cancer in stomach?

I just want them to hurry up and start her on her chemo!

@Galaxyripple   - Ohhh sweetheart, I’m not surprised you’re all devastated. That is so horribly unfortunate that the stomach tumour is secondary BC, which, from what I’ve read, isn’t a common 2ndary site.

Yeh, I too hope they can give your lovely Mum chemo.

I hope you receive some posts from others who’ve shared the similar experiences, to be able to chat with.

I’m wishing and sending her and you all strength and love,  Delly XX

Hello galaxyripple,

I see that you haven’t had any replies yet so I just want to say how much I feel for your mum and you.  I have not had cancer in my stomach but in 2015 it was discovered that I had metastatic breast cancer in my peritoneum that had blocked my bowel and I had to have an ileostomy.  It was a terrible shock especially as it was twenty years after my initial cancer.  I had never heard of BC spreading to this site.  Eventually I did see an article to say that lobular breast cancer could spread there but it still doesn’t seem to be publicised at all.

I just wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you both and understand what you are going through.

Many hugs
