Dear all,
I found this forum with hope to find any useful info for treatment of my mom. She is 59 yo, diagnosed with cancer on Nov 21, 2015 (by ultrasound), in the end of December we finally had the results of her core biopsy ready - luminal B, grade 2, ER+(70%), PR+(40%), Ki67 60%, HER2 - (confirmed by FISH). No BRCA1/2 mutations. Her tumour size is 3 cm, there is one bad looking lymphnode on ultrasound.
So our doctor suggested to try neoadjuvant Femara for 2 weeks and then another core biopsy to see how Ki67 responds. If it responds very well, she may continue on Femara for several months before surgery. If not, then chemo or surgery.
I am a member of the American breast cancer forum, which is also a great source of information. But not so many people go this neoadjuvant endocrine therapy route. I heard that this approach was more common in Europe. In fact a lot of research on it was done by a Russian professor Semiglazov (we are in Russia, by the way). He did a research that compared efficiency of chemo and hormone therapy on postmenopausal women, and found the efficiency for hormone-dependent cancer is similar or even better with hormone therapy.
So I am looking for someone with this experience.
Besides, this is mom’s secondary primary cancer. First one was colon cancer just two years ago. She had extensive surgery (half of her colon is removed), then chemo. Now she has a big hernia, which has to be fixed. Mom most probably has Lynch syndrome (a rare genetic disorder), even though breast cancer is not so common for Lynch).
I will greatly appreciate any information, any similar stories or any advice you may have. I wish everyone here a lot of health. I sympathise greatly with anyone with cancer diagnosis. We’ve been there once, I never thought one can live through all this agony and anxiety again.
Thank you,
Rita.
