Hello, this is my first post. I had breast cancer treatment in 2012, invasive lobular carcinoma, her 2 positive. Three breast tumours sizing 8cm in all and also in my lymph. On diagnosis it was thought I had it in my spine too, but then oncol said it was just an abnormal place probably wear and tear. I went through treatment well, but in January this year I had a total hysterectomy as I was having problems with Tamoxifen. I have felt poorly since and have had back ache. I had 2 CT scans, bone density, bone marrow and 2MRI scans. All came back good except the MRI . I received a call from oncologist last week saying the abnormal area that was originally highlighted is now showing that a disc is broken down. She said my one density scans were good so my spine is not weak. It looks like a trauma injury but I have not had a knock. She said it may be secondary, but may not. The plan is to wait another 8 weeks and do further scans and maybe biopsy. I was so very positive throughout the original treatment, but I’m now concerned and nervous as there seems no other reason why this bone has broken. I would love to hear from anyone who has faced a similar situation please. Thank you

This is almost exactly what has happened to me. I was diagnosed in October last year with invasive lobular carcinoma - a mixture of grade II and III, triple receptor positive… Lots of positive lymph nodes. My scan in November was reported as clear except a nodule in my lung but the lung cancer team think it is nothing to worry about but needs monitoring. Repeat scan in March was reported as no bone mets. Then a scan in May for a different reason picked up a problem in my spine. The bone scan was normal. The specialist bone radiologists (Xray doctor) think it was there in March but has healed with treatment. They can’t do a biopsy because of its position. The spinal specialists want to wait and watch. My oncologist isn’t 100% sure but is treating like it is a met and can’t explain what it is otherwise. She is keeping me on herceptin long term and repeating my scans every 3 months - next one due in October.
I was gutted to start with but most of the time now I am fairly philosophical about it and have started back at work. I have decided I can’t let it rule my life and the majority of the time I manage to carry on as normal. It is difficult to do that though when my joints are hurting and I can’t sleep!
There is no point telling you not to worry about it because you will but try to go with the flow and if you are feeling well do everything you want to!
I like your way of thinking spublab.
Hi jane…sorry to hear you’ve had a rough time of it. Hope it’s not a secondary dx but just wanted to jump in here and reiterate what the others have said and we’re here to help and offer support and encouragement when you need it. I don’t have any bone mets…mine are in lung so can’t really offer anything in the way of advice but there are lots of ladies here who have been living with bone mets for many years who I’m sure will be along to help you.
Hope things turn out well for you.
