my consultant led me to believe he would removed my sentinel node during my op tomorrow and if it was positive he would perform auxillar clearance then.
Does this sound to you that they test it during the op?
Thats what me and my hubbie thought but now i am not sure…
thanks
Hi Evie2007
They inject ya sentinel node with dye first, then remove it during ya op,they did this with me,still had to wait 2 weeks for results though, hope this helps, good luck with ya op

He might take out a few of ya lymph nodes as well, they took out 3 with me,think you,ll have to wait for results, they,ll be the longest 2 weeks of ya life, but if ya need support or need to talk just come on here, there,s always someone on till the early hours,we,ve all been there.

Hi Evie, i had WLE and sentinal node biopsy on 20th March, i was injected with blue dye (beware the blue wee after!) and 4 nodes were tested while i was out, when I came round they told me that 2 were infeted so 21 in all were removed. I then had to wait 2 weeks to hear if any more were infected which they weren’t!
Hope all goes well for you, when are you going in??
Love debs xxxxx
I did get the impression he would know about the SN lymph node
tomorrow so i guess thats probably right?
Hard as the consultant is romanian and hard to understand…sounded a bit count dracula and that distracted me!
Hi
I had aux clearance i.e lymph gland removed during operation but I was told next day that 4 nodes were positive. Prior to op I was told they would send the nodes to be checked during the operation and thats when they would make the decision to remove the glands or not but I think not all hospitals can do this during the operation.
It depends whether your surgeon can do this type of surgery to remove only certain nodes.(not 100% on this bit)
I had sentinel node at the time of my surgery and was told that they would test them while Im asleep and if any were positive he would do a full clearance whilst I was still asleep. When I came round I was told that 9 glands were removed and that they were all clear and no spread. I never had to wait for this part of the results. Never had drains either. 15 months on I still have the blue dye though!!
Hi Evie,
Yes. The day before my surgery I was injected with a blue radium dye and apparently when they operated on my they were able to trace the dye and remove 2 sentinal lymph nodes which were then sent for analysis. This apparently takes about 25 minutes (so I was told) and then they can decide whether to remove any further nodes. They also did this with nodes from my breastbone area, though I had to wait a couple of weeks for the result from them. Luckily all my results were clear and the only cancer that showed was the actual tumour. So good luck with your op and hopefully all your nodes will be clear.
Best wishes
Margaret xx

WLE was ok. Bit sore but felt worse after giving birth to my last daughter if im honest!

Well ive had the lump since the end of my pregnancy with Gracie in the photo. Went to Gp three times but the lump was blamed on hormones and me feeding her.
Finally got referred to be told 99% it was benign and a fibroadenoma but it wasnt! BC confirred on biopsy. A 2.5cm lump. Grade 3. Not been staged but report said its rapidly dividing etc! Lymph nodes appear clear which has surprised the medics.
Results in two weeks and praying margins are clear!
A huge roller coaster. Recovering well but have major baby blues today as hormones get muddled up when you have breast surgery ( evidently).
So hard with little kids. Gracie is holding her hands up for me to pick her up and my 2yr old, Evie, is playing daddy up something chronic!
Hi all - 1st post. Elected for mastectomy (12 days ago) after 7mm ductal invasive tumour Gd 2 found early April. Had SNB with 2 nodes removed. Waiting for results 27th May, very anxious. After exercise cording ok but now find a small lump under armpit. Breast care nurse says probably just lumps & bumps or scar, maybe angry node. Read Jane Plant’s book where re-occurrence after 5 days. Now very worried, anyone had this?
i went to my BCN today for lumpy armpit and pain radiating up my shoulder. She said its oedema-swelling-and it seems dr has damaged a nerve as where i pointed the pain was she said there was a main nerve there.
not read anyting about reoccurance that fast but my armpit it a lumpy mess and BCN seemed unconcerned if that helps!
Thanks for that Evie. How many nodes did you have removed? It seems that in SLB there is a 5% false negative rate and I am not sure that my 2 nodes are enough for a definite result. Makes me wonder if I should not have had axillary dissection. My armpit is not lumpy & bumpy but there is this one lump there, no pain, more like an enlarged node, feels similar to the breast lump. I did find that arm & shoulder exercise helped to loosen the cording. Hope you are feeling better to cope with your daughter.
