I’m glad you’re not feeling too bad now. That must have been really scary for you.
I’ve been told they’ll do my Docetaxel and Carboplatin very slowly the first time - the nurse said 2hours for each, one after the other. I can now understand the benefit of a slower flow!
@anim4l I’ve been wondering if being peri menopausal makes a different to potential hair loss - even with cold cap. Like you I have fine hair and have always moulted well! I’ll give it a go but if it get too patchy and wispy I’ll be getting the clippers out!
Evening, just popped my first anti sickness because my tummy isnt playing nice, just be on the safe side.
@bellbert I’ll be keeping everything crossed for you too Jane.
Rachel @story1 yeah the headaches have gone, icky tummy in its place aha still blame it on the dog of course ?
@anim4l welcome. Were here to help anyway we are able, a good natter seems to do the trick. How are you feeling ?
@dizzy3 its good to see others going through a similar regime isnt it? As a piece of mind (even tho it would be amazing if none of us were) and yes I was the same. Hope you manage a good night sleep and I hope all goes well for you tomorrow. I thought i was having 2 injections and 2 chemo but they did bith injections at the same time. It was a loading dose, so bigger than normal hence the lovely orange peel leg. Hurt at first when it went in but soon stopped. There was another young lady in at the same time as me who was on them same and was cold capping. I hope it goes well for you.
I think I was in for about 3 1/2 hours all together 30 mins anti sickness, 10 mins for the injection and 30 mins to wait for a reaction, 1hr for docetaxel and 30 mins for carbo. Time flew. Lovely nurses to chat to, had my mum with me, colouring book and note book to write all the medication down and any symptoms. Dont be sorry for the ramble, its good to get everything out. A good walk will help in the morning. I was ok when I came out of chemo, went for a little shop. Started to get tired tho about 3.30. Just the day got to me i think…and now i have a really watery eye aha probably my body telling me to get off my phone ha.
Loving this Catherine, as she adds Maltesers to her chemo bag… you look very cosy. The dreaded insomnia has struck again but I’m quite happy clearing out my brain and I’ve ordered a lovely colouring book for my next session. I think my husband wakes up now in the morning and checks Amazon to see what I’ve ordered. A filter for the tap arrived yesterday🤣 xxx
Omg Ailsa my poor husband honestly, but I have a revelation! I drank a small bottle of natural keffir and the symptoms disappeared, stomach went down, gut was happy, gas gone! Hurrah for the little tricks❤️
Thanks for the warm welcome! Feeling a bit nervous. The hardest thing is knowing what to do about my 10 year old daughter. I’m a lone parent and we co sleep. She’s super close to my 2 sisters who are like second
mums to her and live within 5 minutes , she sees them several times a week and sleeps over weekly so it’s a bit like going to her “other parent”. one of my sister is a doctor (GP) and thinks it’s best if my daughter sleeps at her house during my chemo , as I’ll be immunocompromised. My sister is worried I’ll pick up infections from my daughter and suggests I spend time with her next to open windows/ outside. I think this is too upsetting for my daughter and would welcome advice.
Ah, still learning how to reply etc lol! Thanks Rachel, doing fine, couple days since 1st chemo, slight nausea & headaches but been more manageable than expected. Face bit flushed, chest rash and few painless mouth ulcers started today, district nurse in for injections. On positive note steroids had me walking for miles yesterday and wanting to cook in the middle of the night lol. Hope you’re doing ok and I’m just learning how to respond to others as I see so many similarities in posts.
Hi and welcome! I have two girls (7 and 11) and have chosen not to distance from them despite the risk. Whilst we don’t cosleep we do still snuggle etc a lot. We are avoiding kissing on lips and if either of them were poorly I’d take precautions and isolate a bit or mask up. I mask up when in busy places and am avoiding supermarkets and public transports.
It really is personal preference, balancing the need to keep you safe and the need to provide love and support both to your child and that you receive as a mum.
I’ve had two very tearful girls this morning as my hair is now coming out a lot and it’s broken my heart taking them to school in tears and finding the strength to support them when I feel so sad myself.
My only advice would be do what feels right in the moment and be kind to yourself… judging your decisions and second guessing yourself will only use up energy you need for your fight xxx
Cooking in the middle of the night lol. I get migraines but I’m still allowed my drugs in chemo thank god bc had a blinder last week but migraine tabs still worked. Feeling good today after just the PAC yesterday, I’ll take this over the carbo and pembro as well every third week. Been for walk and done my tax return now I’m on the sofa. Rachel xx
Afternoon. Sorry I cant be more help with your daughter based on what your sister has said given shes a gp. But going off what my doctors have said and the chemo nurses, I often sleep in my daughters bed and I mentioned I’ll have to stop. My nurse said that it should be fine if Im not having night sweats as the chemo can come out onto clothes and bedding (so ill avoid on those nights) . Also spoke to her school about infections and illnesses and they said they would let me know about anything going to around in her class. No kisses, plenty of cuddles. Washing hands and detol spray on all bedding and such. Perhaps if shes poorly she has a sleep over at her aunties. Dont be too harsh on yourself and just take things a day at a time. Its currently all the unknown.
@cridders hope your ok and your little misses are too xxxxx
This is so hard, Kim’s advice is the best, I was told to carry on as normal being careful in certain situations (daughters friend had impetigo recently so she didn’t see her and another has a cold so is staying away) but what do you do when it’s your own little ones who want mummy? My son has been running a temp this week but I haven’t stopped the cuddles and he’s 18! Only you know. I recall my daughter at 10 being very emotionally dependent on me but she didn’t have super close aunties. I think what Kim said about being kind to yourself, we have one job here and that’s to get better, sending love xxx Rachel
Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply! I think as a GP my sister has a lot of anxiety about me as she understands how serious my situation is (she knew I was stage 3b from my first appointment where as it took time for this to dawn on me), and she’s worried about the risks to me, but she also loves my daughter as her own
Hi all. As you know I had my first EC on 5th September. My second is on Friday, I started shedding hair from everywhere about a week ago and it’s steadily got worse. Today I washed my hair and large clumps came out followed by the crown and back becoming all notty and matted. Emergency call to my hairdresser who kindly came round to the house, we made a decision to shave it off. other than the hubby you are the first to see me. Think it’s going to take a bit of getting used to but I have a lot of scarves and have ordered a few wigs. Good luck to all those starting their journeys this week. Xx
@mrsb6 you look beautiful I love wearing a little beanie round the house now, keeps lovely a warm. And I’m surprised at how much I actually like not having hair. No spending ages on getting ready, washing and drying is lovely. And if i do want hair, throw a wig on and done plus hat weather I love Autumn.
@cridders that looks so comfy. Do they have ones for legs ? Ill have a toot
First injection done, so tired tonight so im going to head to sleep, bloomin stings after aha.
