September 2023 Chemo Starters

@naughty_boob - what a tough day. Must be so hard when it doesn’t go to plan. We all want to get through it fast as we can so any delay is going to be a body blow. But the passing of time is inevitable and we will get through it even if it takes longer than we hope. Its good that you can change centres to somewhere where it is less likely to happen. It is such an unknown how we’ll react at each session and what side effects we’ll get and when. One day at a time eh. I hope you feel better soon and feel like you are getting back on track.

A good cream a lot of us used for moisturiser was underly smooth with extra urea from Amazon. When nothing else seemed to quench the skin this worked for a lot of us. You could look at the beauty despite cancer range, they do good products. I just used my regular makeup and was fine with that :two_hearts::two_hearts::sparkles::sparkles:Shi xx

Hi! Having the port fitted tomorrow and looks like I’ll be an October chemo after all.
How was the pain after the port fitted? How soon did you start chemo after ?
Rest up

Had my eyebrows microbladed thanks to a friend tip and the lady recommended Benefit goof proof pencil. Haven’t tried it myself but she swore by it and apparently easy to use x

Hi, I had port in the morning under sedation and local and then my first EC chemo the same day in the afternoon. I’m very lucky to be able to go private through my work so I don’t know if that speeds things up? I’ve had a little discomfort- it’s a week on and I’m still bandaged/waterproofed but bruising is settling. I had pain/aches in my sternum but I think that was more due to the injection to stimulate white blood cells- they said it could be hips/thighs/sternum. I’ve found a triangle pillow super helpful to wedge and stop me wriggling as I’m usually a side sleeper. Have taken an ibuprofen as I go to bed, which has helped. Good luck x

Thank you @Shi. I have booked Look Good Feel Better for end of October so hopefully the timing will be about right.

Here is my before during and after…

Start to End

Some more successful than others( think my wig action needs some work), but that will do for now. Will undoubtedly need to go shorter as it falls out but its a start…

You look amazing @frazzledmcsazza

You really suit the short hair in your post shave pic, it looks cool. The wigs are fab too, so realistic you’d never know xxxx

 great photos  let you into a secret our oct17 gang had lots of wigs, coloured bobs, tinsel wigs at Christmas, long rainbow wigs all sorts  we went a little chemo crazy but helped us get through, we had a tune a day and all virtually danced through it together and by the end of chemo felt like we were doing the Malcolm McLaren double Dutch video :joy: Google it if you’ve never seen it :two_hearts::two_hearts::sparkles::sparkles:Shi xx

You look amazing with short hair, and wig looks so real on you, I never noticed if you have not shown your original hair too.
Take care and good luck with your treatment.:star_struck::hibiscus::muscle:

Hi naughtyboob, really sorry to hear about your reaction and that there were no doctors available to help. Fingers crossed they will know exact what to do when you chat to them in clinic. So far they always give me piriton and steroids prior to the paclitaxel infusion, and hoping they will do that for you now. Allergic reactions to pac are not uncommon according to the nurse I spoke to on my first session. Hope for a better day for you today.

Hi plum1, interesting to hear that about your port, hope it gets less sore. I’m still trying to decide between port and picc. Finding a vein was more of a challenge on chemo yesterday and I’ve a lot more sessions to go. I’m still having post op pain so reluctant to add more limitations to movement into the mix, but seems inevitable…

Thank you! Good to know :purple_heart:. Very lucky to have private too but only till my work contract ends (mat cover) . Yes they warned me that gcsf might give back pain. I’ll report back next week

Really nice wig and you!!:purple_heart: have cut my hair really short too and thinking of shaving it but will try the cold cap when treatment start next week

I still need to sort a hair cut, I tried some wigs a couple of days before starting chemo and of course found I have expensive taste- the nicest one was £1400 :scream: it didn’t help that all the synthetic ones had the parting on the wrong side. And it would need cutting- would definitely raise some eyebrows if I suddenly turn up with Kate Middleton style long waves!

What have people been spending? Has anyone found a decent one online? My BC nurse said one of her patients found a good one on Amazon- I’ve got one saved but really no clue what to do. But have noticed I’m definitely shedding. I was able to tolerate the cold cap last week but sort of wondering if it’s worth the bother?!

@daffodil1 having mine fitted later and can let you know if you like. I am a baby when it comes to needles and going weekly for chemo made the decision easy. Ver apprehensive about movement/range reduction. Spoke to different nurses and they all said it was the better way to approach it. They can also draw blood out which was sold the deal for me (it’s not just stuff going in)
