Weird, right? I had a small local reaction in addition to all the above too but they didnt notice that right away. Was back in for a do over yesterday, I had already had the full Phesgo dose so they just did the docetaxel and carboplatin yesterday, and the blasted cold cap! It was a tough day but I am glad to have it in. How are you feeling now? Today I have been wiped out and a bit nauseous but nothing too severe.
The dilemma of who to tell and who not to is so tough. I donāt think it is denial, it is just wanting to have a bit of privacy and normality. I went back and forth on this so much, and have gone the other way in the end, partly because my family are just big and very keen to share and get support, prayers etc. It has been good as we have had loads of support thanks to lots of people knowing, but I also get that it can feel very exposing. Our neighbours still donāt know, but gradually finding out I think. I have been really touched by how people who donāt even know us that well have stepped up to help though- meals etc.
It was my first chemo cycle today. Cold-capping and chemo were both better than i expected. All went well and i was well looked after.
Now to await the aftermath of howbit makes me feel!
Thatās brilliant to read, Iām glad you got through it OK and no reactions. Sorry your old man didnāt fare too well but heāll be alright. Iām the same if I stay put I get back to sleep. Are you doing your own injections or district nurse coming in, or your other half? Iāve not had much issue with those my last one tomorrow then all meds finished for this cycle - yay! Wishing you well x
That is very good to hear and Iām so pleased for you. Yes waiting for the aftermath is weird to say the least and weāre all different so this is when it gets personal to you. Best of luck over the next few days x
Well done!!!
Ooops i meant to write cold cap, not old man! The other half is alright, but the cold cap was awful for me.
I am doing injections myself, dont start till day 5 though.
Congrats on nearly being through meds for this cycle! Overall do you think the side effects have been better or worse than expected? This was your first cycle right? Best luck for next dose!
Been a bit of a rubbish day here. Absolutely shattered and nausea nowhere near as well controlled as the first cycle. Had some chest pain and been a bit breathless but this happened on my first cycle so not unexpected. Had the pegfilgrastim at 4pm. Not gonna lie there have been tears this afternoon!
Well done to everyone for keep on keeping on, this forum makes me feel very much not alone. X
I would say not as bad as expected, the unknown is worse & putting 2 and 2 together and getting 67. Yes first cycle but just expecting it to get worse and worse with each cycle I suppose. Take it easy and rest, sleep eat repeat. X
Hi how did round 2 go? Was your hair ok ? Xx
Aww Iām so sorry to read this, it was your second cycle yesterday, have I got that right? Sorry if wrong. Iām not surprised thereās been tears, but theyāre good and cathartic and better out than in. Itās trying to find things that help with all these different side effects. Be kind to yourself x
Hi sorry to hear that hope you get a good nights sleep and feel a little better in morning x
@sharlou
Thinking of you and hope it gets a bit better over the next 24 hours. Did you get different sickness meds or the same as cycle one?
Same here, one step at a time. Just got to get through each day, with a bit of joy along the way.
Sorry Sharlou, totally agree with what nicnac said, better out than in. Tears are a gift! And tomorrow is a new day. Well done for getting through today.
Thank you everyone, lovely to read these messages of support! Up early this morning with septum and rib painā¦guess the filgrastim is going to trigger costochondritis each time, the joys.
@jules8 the cold cap seemed to be fitted a bit better this time and I slathered a lot more conditioner through which seems to have helped. Doesnāt seem to be as brittle as yet, although there is light shedding each time I comb - no major clumps yet, touch wood!
@nellyh same sickness meds, but I keep getting told side effects are cumulative so maybe I should have been more preparedā¦I donāt know whether Iāve been in denial or just naively optimistic Iāve had to use the āas neededā anti-sickness this time, which I didnāt use at all during the first cycle. I hope Iām not panicking people with my tales of woe!
@niknak17 it was my second cycle. I breezed through my first one and kind of hoped they would all be the same Iām sure it will settle soon, itās only day 2 today so Iām just going to rest up today, eat what I can, and ride it out.
@ake thank you Iāve not cried too much through this really, I think Iāve tried too much with the brave face thing so I donāt upset people!
Thanks again for all your kind words. Hope everyone is doing ok and feeling as well as can be xx
Morning Sharlou ā¦ thanks for your messages. You are doing so well with this and keeping us so updated even when you feel like you do is so lovely and encouraging. You are an inspiration and Iām loving following you as our timings are quite close and gives me an idea of whatās coming. I have also tried to be brave in front of family and when on my own I cry for England. Does it help I think it does. What conditioner did you use ? Have a duvet day today you deserve it and hope you feel a bit brighter later on.
@sharlou
I had a day or so of pain in my back / pelvis with the filgrastim but only lasted a couple of days.
I think we are on a similar regime. Your a couple of weeks ahead of me my 2nd on 30th.
My anti sickness worked 1st round but iād heard that you can try sickness bands on your wrists as a drug free option that might help. I have some but not needed to try them yet.
I feel like im never going to sleep again though. Wide awake at 3 and 4 every night. Peeing for England with all this hydration doesnt help either
Not looking forward to accumulative side effects
I hope things settle for you over the weekend. X
I am due to start my Chemo on Monday 23rd (TC Phesgo) every three weeks for six cycles.
Thank you to everybody for your tips throughout this thread.
I am struggling with going out as worried about picking up colds and coughs before my chemo. I am sure I am not the only one so if anyone has any tips to reduce this anxiety I would love to hear it. I am going to walk my dog at the beach today so am going out the house.
