September Chemo Start

Hi all!

I wrote earlier last month about fertility and decided to go ahead with it. I was able to freeze only 1 embryo but hoping that will be enough for a baby after chemo and the rest of the treatment (Herceptin, Radiation and Tamoxifen! My doctors have put me on Lupron now and have said that I’m already pre-menapasal (at 33!)

I got my port-a-cath insterted yesterday, as well as my first chemo round at 1pm (Taxotere and Cyclophosphamide) and must say that although I’m very sore (most likely from the cath) I don’t feel any nausea yet or any other symptoms (it’s 5am here).

Did any of you fine ladies not feel any symptoms after the first chemo round? I’m getting a Neulasta shot today around 4 so I’ve hear with the Taxotere and this shot will cause bone pain. Will I start feeling symptoms soon? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to feel sick, but I’m worried that it’s not working… I guess I should just count my blessings and wait it out. Watch me just jinxed it and I’ll feel terrible in a few hours!

Anyways, I hope and pray that everyone is doing well! You have all helped me so much in the past and I’m so happy to have this board to read and get great advice from!

Thanks for reading,
Mary

Hello!

I remember you well and am really pleased you were able to freeze an embryo. That’s great news. Was that from a natural cycle?

I think we do slightly different combinations to you this side of the pond - I did AC first which included cyclophosphamide and am now on Tax. The Tax has given me no nausea problems at all. The first lots did make me feel very queasy - but I was never sick - and they do throw lots of anti-sickness drugs at you so some people don’t feel ill at all.

I’ve had relatively few side effects compared to many and have been a right pain in the a*se pestering my oncologist to make sure he’s giving me the right dosages etc!!! Which he promises me he has.

Wishing you few side effects. I’d just take it easy for a few days and keep a diary - I’m having 4 rounds of each lot and the side effects have been very similar on the same days on each round.

xx

Thanks so much for writing me back! I didn’t realize that there was another September thread!

I actually was stimmed (with hormones) before my egg harvesting. I actually had 10 eggs, 5 mature but there were problems with them all but luckily one was fertilized and frozen and was completely healthy. My doctor said my ‘bad’ eggs were maybe due to all the cancer tests (radiation and such) and maybe my stress level. I was kind of disappointed but happy to at least have 1 ‘good’ egg and now an embryo!

I’m happy to hear that you were not sick but just queasy and that your oncologist promises you are getting the right doseage. I guess you are just really strong!! The nausea drugs are amazing so far. I did wake up with a yucky mouth though. Looks like my taste buds may be changing :frowning:

Well, thanks again for getting back to me so soon! I do have a blog going, which I find is SO helpful! Good luck with the rest of your treatments and I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you make it through with little side effects too. I’m sure we will keep in touch!

I guess everyone deals differently with the Chemo, and
