September Sunbeams 2014

Phew Jiordi I’m so happy you are feeling well enough to get out and about, it’s helpful to hear all experiences, but great to hear a good one!
Rachael you must be relieved that bits done, my welcome chat is on Friday at 12, husband and daughter coming, daughter will be on her phone throughout probably lol, !! Good luck for Wednesday, don’t forget your pineapple Ice lollies, I got mine today, heard they really do help with the sore mouth so I’m up for it lol, take care ladies, suns out tomorrow woo hoo ??xxx

Hi Samps. I’m sure you will feel reassured after your visit. My son would be the same LOL. He just asked me for my phone when I walked through the door! Nobody in there was sucking follies so I told the nurse I would be the first! Xxx

* lollies!

September 2013 member checking in - just a quick reply about the aches and pains, I was told a lot of it is down to bone marrow bosting injections you get but whatever its down to I found an electric blanket to be a godsend as well as hot baths, wheaty bags and paracetamol.  I also kept moving all day - my pain only used to start when I sat down once my kids went to bed, hence the fact I would often go for a hot bath then to bed with my electric blanket.  It lasted a few days and was in the oddest of places - shins and knees for me, I gather it hits your weak spots.  xxxx

me again - just reading Sarah post and agree with the tonic water (gin is acceptable once in a while lol) as that really helped as did the oral b toothpaste rubbed in your mouth and on your tongue.  oraldene mouthwash was better for me than corsodyl which the hospital gave me.  eat what you can when you can if you go off food, this aint the best time for diets

keeping active is my best advice though - not only does it boost your energy levels I found it helped keep me positive.

Hi ladies,

My friend went through this last year and she advised me to try desperately hard to keep up the exercise even through the pain.  She is a sporty person, but I am not!  However, I have spent the last 8 months learning to run on the treadmill (I bought a second hand one so I could do this in the privacy of my bedroom! My daughter props herself up on my bed so she can enjoy the entertainment of her mother learning to run!) - I was diagnosed with diabetes in January and had to lose weight and exercise, so lost 7 stones and can now run 6k every day.  I may not be able to keep up that level of exercise every day during chemo but I plan to give it a try!  Interestingly, they told me that because the two tumours in my left breast were very small, had I been carrying as much fat as I was in January they might not have seen them in this mammogram, and it would have been my scheduled mammogram next June before this cancer was caught!  Every cloud, as they say.  Did you see the Macmillan report yesterday that said people who had been treated for cancer did much better if they exercised for the rest of their lives?   Off out to buy the pineapple lollies now.  Hope you lovely ladies are having minimal SEs and that you are doing OK. Thank you so much for all this great advice.  Still very anxious and apprehensive, but so good to hear how well you are doing. Hugs to you all.

Good to know about exercising.  I Got up this morning and cleaned the house…wondered if I’d done the right thing?!  does anyone else feel hot one minute and then quite cold?  my temp seems OK? :smileyhappy:

so glad I’ve found these forums and feel like I’ve found a haven to come into with everyone in the same boat!! My humour seems to have gone to the dark side these days, anyone else the same?  :robotembarrassed:

Hi everyone and thanks Samps ‘re tomorrow. How weird that you can feel healthy and know that you are potentially going to feel bloody awful in a matter of days. Best to get on with it. Been driving myself mad today trying to ‘prepare’ which is what I was like before surgery. Before this I had never been ill or in hospital so Defo in the twilight zone. Going to get pineapple Lollies too LOL DOUBT it will help with the ’ run over by a truck’ effect though!!! Actually really don’t want to wait anymore…doubt ill sleep tonight. Couldn’t last night. Hope you all feel better and get some rest this eve lots of love Rachael xxx

good luck with tomorrow Rachael.  I was like you, felt a complete fraud going for treatment when I felt so well.  I didn’t sleep much the night before but that was due to me taking the steroids too late on in the evening.  No-one told me to have them around 5/6 pm!!  This is my 4th day after herceptin and chemo and the hot flashes are coming thick and fast.

Take care everyone

Ade x

Hi everyone, top tip!
I took steroids at 8am and 12 noon as advised by my team, I didn’t have an issue with sleeping at night. (I had Fec-t)

Niki, I’m going to do that for the next session.  I was told you had to have 12 hours between doses!

Evening sunbeams!! 1852 I had a supermarket hunt and found them in Sainsburys! I’ve also made my own by pouring pineapple juice in ice trays lol, worth a try I thought!

All the very best again for tomorrow Rachael, I know sleep will probably not be your friend tonight, not been mine lately, I spend most nights on the settee reading these monthly forums, I’m up to April lol, but boy are they helpful!! The cat has just brought us another bloody present, I’ve put 3 bells on him, sounds like a troop of Morris dancers running around, he still catches something every night ?,

Nanight girls xxx

Hahaha that made me laugh!

Just want it done now…Fed up of the anxiety! Thank you everyone. I’ll let you know tomorrow x ps I’ve got to go in earlier at 10 for blood tests. Night night xxxxxxx

Morning everyone.  Husband sent off to hunt for pineapple icelollies…bless him.  Can anyone tell me if they have this feeling of someone having their hand round your throat?  it comes and goes, it’s like a jumper that’s too tight round your neck!!  Sorry to moan but feeling cr@p today.

Just been to a nutrition class. Use real pineapple blitzed and then either freeze or let it semi-freeze in a bowl and eat when there are little shards of ice. Can’t recall the name of the thing in the pineapple that soothed and helped with nausea but nutritionist all for it. P x

Hi lady grey, no need to apologise, I haven’t started yet but a good moan, whine, vent and all angry stuff is what this place is all about, along with support, help and general girl power stuff!! I’ve read loads and have to say I’ve not heard about the throat feeling, but I know we all get the odd unique SE, I would call again if you haven’t already, just to put your mind at ease, good luck to your hubby on his hunt lol!!

Hi lovely ladies, was just thinking about a name for our thread? Someone had mentioned September Sunbeams at beginning of thread, that’s nice, us shining through and all that stuff lol, or any other suggestions? Then we can ask the moderator very nicely if she’ll change it.

Have a good evening, hope Rachael’s ok after her first cycle, xxxx

love the name September Sunbeams so go for it. I think we are all very scared at putting this poison into our bodies.  I had a bit if a melt down last night but hey today apart from feeling garbage, I’m mentally OK ish.  my back and legs are sore but keeping moving helps and paracetamol.  have had to up the omeprazole to 40gs per day as the indigestion is awful.  I had an under the skin port put in for chemo as i am such a big woose with canulaes and think this pulling a bit on my throat. Husband didn’t get the lollies but tesco have ordered them for me/him?? :smileyhappy:  I bought a nutribullet so will try blitzing the pineapple and semi freezing it…watch this space!!
