Seroma after LD flap

I have seroma which had capsulated and gone into pockets,in abdomen, following DIEP, but when I saw my consultant yesterday she likened it to similar problems patients have following fluid forming on the back, following LD surgery.Has anyone had this, and what was the outcome?

Jillybee - I’m really not understanding why your consultant didn’t explain your queries yesterday, told you whether it’s a common happening or not, what’s to be done or can be done about it. I’d suggest either getting back to her even if it’s a phonecall, OR phone to speak to your BCN or any BCN. My only experience of a seroma was following my mastectomies, where I was told that some of the fluid can become naturally absorbed by the body. But if it hasn’t and carries on INcreasing over the next few days, to phone up the ward tel no. speak to the doctor to arrange to go in and have it aspirated as otherwise it can preven tthe binding and healing of the skin to the underlying structures. Not so sure what when it’s become capsulated which suggests to me that it’s become a more organised structure.

Phone them up Jilly, soon as poss. Hope you get it sorted.

Naa Jillybee, you’ve been through far more, hence my saying I admire your tenacity.

Shame I’m nowhere near you.  Good to know you are closer to having it sorted HOPEFULLY once and for all. Makes a huge difference when you have a surgeon you feel such confidence in and comfortable with. I missed out on a good female surgeon with a fantastic reputation where I lived before, but had to move area. Think I mentioned that. I don’t mean to nit pick cos I have a huge respect for what they all do. It’s just, as with many things, especially medical, some are that much better than others.

Ps. Jilly - so that now puts you at 67.  Even more respect from me xx
