Seroma

I had a wide load excision with a sentinel lode biopsy on 8th April this year and although I have read all the info on the subject, I am concerned with the amount of seroma that I am experiencing,  I knew there would be some and accepted that but some days it feels like I have another lump in my breast.

I find it more comfortable to go without a bra in the house but obviously put one on to go out and wondered if this made a difference at all?

I am seeing my consultant tomorrow for the results of the lump etc but I wondered if anyone else had this problem or not?

Hi I had the same operations on the 4th April. Had my stitches out a week ago and told them about the seroma build up being quite uncomfortable and getting quite Big. They checked me over and they said there was quite a lot of fluid and said I could have it drained if its continued to be a problem. However the last few days it’s actually gone down quite a bit and isn’t as sore as it was so I’m not going to bother. Wearing a bra doesn’t seem to aggrevate mine, but I am wearing cotton bra that is too big for my actual cup size so that probably helps. If you’re due to see your consultant just tell them it’s a problem and I’m sure they will arrange for it to be drained. Jacklynn x

Thanks for the replies. Not sure if I could face draining it but it is uncomfortable and achy if that makes sense. I will definintely be speaking to the consultant tomorrow about it.

Hi Lesley, I had a seroma and a heamatoma that got worse about 8 days after WLE. The pain was bad and could hardly move my arm and certainly couldn’t do the exercises we are given. I eventually went to the hospital with it and they drained both. I’m not going to lie it did hurt having them drained but the pain relief was almost instant and my arm movement came on leaps and bounds over the next few days. I can feel it occasionally filling up again but nothing compared to what it was before draining. If yours is that uncomfortable speak to your medical team about getting it drained. Kerry xx

Thanks for this thread…I had surgery a week ago and they drained the seroma on Monday (it was tennis ball size and now it is back again) …quite sore but having a tennis ball under arm is annoying…I would prefer to go without interference…I use those cotten integrated bra tops and they seem to work well

any other tips

Hi Penny they drained mine once then it filled up again but before I had a chance to go back and get it drained again my body absorbed it.
