Seroma

I had my Mastectomy 7 months ago and have a very large hard lump the size of a  duck egg on the start of my wound nearent my breast bone, I am n ot unduly worried as the Hospital is aware of this and told me it is the Lynphatic fluid draining away and can take some time, has anyone else experienced this?

Hello and welcome.

I did nto have an mx, but I did have a seroma where my snb was, it took several months for it to finally dissipate.  I spoke to my bcn about it and she said as long as it is not causing me too much discomfort then it is best left to drain on its own, when I went for my results appointment they had a look at it and were happy to leave it to go on its own.

I know some ladies on here have had to have them drained because of the discomfort and size though

Hi Steele

I had seroma’s with both my masts, at various different stages. I would definitely contact your team and have it drained, because all the time it’s there, it isn’t healing underneath it. Only takes a sterile hypodermic to drain off the fluid, and Delly’s your aunty, as oppo to your Uncle Bob!! You’ll feel a lot better from, and it’ll heal that much quicker. Them there’s my advice notes - healing wise. Get it done sweetie.

Hi Steele

That’s great then, good timing for your check-up! I’d be really interested to hear what they have to say/do about the lumps. I neglected to say, that I was aware some breast units tend to avoid draining seromas, due to a very slight risk of infection, but all done with sterile hyperdermics, of course. But I’d have thought, if it is a seroma, is so uncomfortable and not draining on its own, they’d do it for you. It doesn’t hurt to have done at all, and obviously, it immediately takes the pressure away. My first boob developed one the size of 1/2 a tennis ball very quickly, within weeks of the op. But my unit policy seemed much “for” draining. So you also have your “dog ear” to discuss, yes?

Steele darlin’, you’ve over two months yet to the end of Feb - a lot can diminish, lump wise, in that time. I’m sure you’ll feel tons better after your appointment, at least get some answers and possibly treatment, or possibly self massage? But you’ll find out soon enough.

I hope I’m zipping off to Lanzarote when I’m 80. Good for you. You going with a friend(s)? Any room for a skinny 'un?? That’s great you’ve got it to look forward to. Plus escape to some warmer weather. Have you got your swimwear sorted?!! That was a half serious question. Do you wear a prosthesis, or isn’t that possible/uncomfortable with the hard lump at the moment?

Hope to hear back from you soon, or anytime. I think you’re one brave, gutsy lady, plus it’s bloomin tough on your own,'hey. That’s from a 59 yr old double master 2006 +2007, part through implant recon. I take my sun hat hat off to you.  Yeeehaaaaa.

Please do let us know how you go on at your appointment.

Lotsa love, DellyGiveItSomeWelly xxxxx
