Sertraline and Chemo

Hello lovely people! So I have a quick question. I was on sertraline 50mg and I didn’t realise how much it helped me with my anxiety etc. Anyway, when I saw my oncologist about starting chemo he asked about regular medication. I told him I was on sertraline and he said he needed to check if I should come off it because it could affect the chemo (EC for 4 sessions, the Paclitaxel for 4 sessions)
So in my happy state, I weened off them. Took 25mg for 5 days and then nothing. Today is day 7 of not having them. Turns out… I need them lol. I am not in a good way. The withdrawal symptoms have been horrible (brain zaps, fatigue, very very weepy)
So is anyone else on sertraline and did it affect your chemo?? I havent heard anything back from my oncologist regarding the sertraline but I’m going to call him today and check in. I start treatment tomorrow.

Mine didn’t have any issues with me taking sertraline but fluoxetine was a big no no. I ended up not taking either because I hated the way I felt on sertraline.

Hey
I hope your oncologist says you can take them again! I had completely different chemo drugs but was fine to keep my sertraline going throughout. Tbh there is no way I could have done all this nightmarish treatment without them, I mean I struggled before with low moods and stuff but after a cancer diagnosis…!

I started sertraline prior to diagnosis and stayed on it through treatment. Bilateral lumpectomies, node clearance, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Now on Anastrozole. Nobody seemed concerned about Sertraline. I have, however, recently stopped sertraline with no ill effects. With luck you will be the same.

Anastrozole, now that’s a different kettle of fish……

Hallo Pengu1n, could I ask how you’re finding Anastrozole?

I changed to it a month ago after having been on Letrozole for 8 months as the side effects were so horrendous I just couldn’t tolerate them any longer.

In general, I’ve been finding Anastrozole side effects a little “gentler” but my left leg has now become inflamed and is very painful, and the GP has put me on a 14 day course of strong anti-inflammatories.

How is it going for you?

Hi Fran. I’m finding Anastrozole a bit testing. The main thing is that my legs feel so heavy some days. I seem unable to get them to move properly so end up walking very slowly. Also carpal tunnel which I think is a known side effect. Add fatigue to the mix and it’s rather debilitating. Then I’ll get a few days without anything it’s wonderful.

Maybe I am blaming Anastrozole for everything that feels a bit wrong. It’s difficult to tell what causes what really. I blamed chemo for a long time.

As long as it does its job I’m prepared to work round it all though.

Hope you get on ok with it.

Good news!!! I can take them again!! :dancer::dancer: I swallowed that pill so quick this morning when the nurse said i could haha!! Im so pleased because man oh man… dunno if i could do it without xx

Hi I’m on the same meds tbh I took my self off them when I was diagnosed as cancer was my worse fear and I got it. But now I’m back on them and I have 150 ml I don’t think they will effect the chemo tbh though as Ur on a small dose. Good luck with everything xx
