Has anyone else suffered sickness and diarrhoea after taking Letrozole? I’m afraid I stopped taking it after 1 week as I was so sick and can’t cope! Not sure what to do now! Has anyone changed to Exemestane or another hormone reducing drug and found it easier to tolerate?
Ive been on Letrozole for 6 months now the first couple of months seemed fairly OK, but since then have constant nauseous feeling like a stone in my stomach, constipation, and my mood has really dropped. I was thinking of asking to try another AI, if it turned out to be the same or worse I can always change back. I stopped for a week to see the effect and I definitely felt better.
Its really hard when you’re at home alone and feeling lousy, thats why this forum is such a blessing. I don’t know what the benefit to me actually is statistically. I was never told that, didn’t have Predict but did have Oncotype. Sometimes I think if we actually knew the difference the AI’s really make to us individually we may have a different view of the whole thing. I worked in the NHS in Biomedical Science and try to read peer-reviewed peer reviewed papers etc, but I still dont know what the actual benefit of Letrozole is to me.
Sending a big hug and hope you find an answer that will help you to feel better x
Thanks Polly. I’ve decided to take Tamixifen until I see my oncologist again. I finished radiotherapy today and am still having Phesgo which also makes me feel a bit nauseous! However, I can feel with that as not actually sick, although it brings me out in an itchy rash which isn’t nice. I’m hoping that my body will be getting stronger soon and I’ll be able to cope with one of the aromatese inhibitors better!
Good luck with yours. It’s a long life changing journey!
I feel like Letrozole is making me constipated unless it’s the calcium and vit d chews you take with it.
Given it was only at the start could you try again as maybe you had a sickness and diarrhoea bug? Have you spoken to your breast care nurses? I find them really good at getting back to me when I have questions.
I don’t think so as I had been feeling nauseous all week. It was a violent attack and didn’t feel like a bug. I did speak to helpline and the nurse suggested I give it another go. I have requested a phone call with nurse oncologist but haven’t heard back yet.
