Hi,
My story - following routine mammogram was recalled and biopsy showed DCIS.
Lumpectomy done and one lymph node removed. Unfortunately no clear margins found from sample removed. Lymph node was clear . Options were to remove more tissue or a simple mastectomy. I opted for the mastectomy. Reconstruction options were explained and after lots of research and thought I decided that I would just have the mastectomy and no reconstruction. Once I’d made the decision I had the best night’s sleep for a while.
It’s been nearly 6 weeks since my operation, I am doing exercises to keep muscles supple and movement good. Haven’t found a bra that is comfortable yet. Waiting for appointment for prosthetic. Taking returning to driving one trip at a time, didn’t realise which muscles were used just to steer .
Whole journey has taken 4 months. No further treatment required ?, just regular mammograms for my other side.
All in all a scary time but positive outcome for me. Getting used to my scar and my new look.
