Hi lovelies;
Don’t come on here much now as I’m 2 years since left mastectomy . All has been going ok except recently I have developed shooting nerve pain o we the whole mastectomy area? It wakes me up at night and can take my breath away. It’s like an electric shock. ( thought it was a heat attack but no definitely not!) it comes and goes.
Anyone else had this? Is it the nerves regenerating this long after a mastectomy. Very strange and a little anxiety provoking.
Xxxx
Hi I still get occasional nerve pain, as you described shooting and takes my breath away. This is ten years post lumpectomy and node clearance. I had an ultrasound (I had found a lump but turned out to be scar tissue) and asked about the pain. She said that some people get it and they don’t really know why. It can disappear over time but sometimes continues long term. Hope that helps you to not worry about it.
Hi. I am 11 years post-lumpectomy and 8 years post-reconstruction and I still have some pains and discomfort sometimes. It isn’t constant but is persistent. I’ve had ultrasound and mammogram tests over the years, which have shown up the scarring and lumpy bits and it seems to be a reaction from my body to all the changes that the ops have made to the tissue. My team has previously said it was likely to be a mix of scar tissue from 2 ops, radiotherapy scarring and nerve damage. I also have pain at the site of my node-removal scar, again not constant but a regular occurrence. I can go for a time with no issues at all but then have discomfort which makes you want to grab and squeeze the offending article - difficult in company! It seems that some people get it and others don’t - I suppose it reflects the individuality of each of our journeys - but is something I’ve tried to accept and have worried less about over time. Hope that it doesn’t affect you too much but, if you are still concerned, I’d suggest asking one of your team for their advice. Hope you carry on being okay and not worrying too much. Love Small Pickles xx
