Hi i wondered if anybody could help me. About 5 years ago i found a lump at the bottom of my breast near the bone. My GP sent me to the breast clinic to have it checked out as they could feel a lump too. I had an ultrasound and they said they couldn’t find anything. To be honest i was made to feel really stupid as the doctor examined me physically as well and said i cant feel anything. The lump is still there and appears to have got a bit bigger. My family are insisting i go back to my gp, but i feel stupid in case they think im time wasting.
Hi Hippie
I would go back again. I ha d a friend who’s lump didn’t show up on ultrasound so she had to have an MRI scan and there it was. These lumps can be deceiving things.
You are never wasting anyones time, this is your body and if you can feel that then go get it checked again.
It is more than likely nothing to worry about but surely its best to know what it is. Don’t be fobbed of, insist.
Good luck

Hi Hippie
I would definately have it checked. You will probably find that things are probably different from 5 years ago. GPs seem to be better informed and the 2 week rule applies now.
Please get it checked, it could be nothing, but as you have probably gathered from some of these threads it is better to be safe than sorry.
Good Luck

Don’t worry about wasting anyone’s time - get it checked again. 5 years is a long time for it still to be there - hopefully it will turn out to be nothing to worry about but that’s still not wasting someone’s time.
Hi Hippie
I would definately go and have that checked out. You are obviously worried about it. If it turns out to be nothing well that’s even better. Don’t let anyone make you feel stupid. It’s obviously bothering you or you would not be posting about it. In the meantime, try not to read too much as you’ll only scare yourself. Let us know how you get on…make that appointment.

Hi Hippie
Like everyone else says, get it checked out. Hopefully it will be a benign lump, but you will still want to know for sure.

Five years ago is a long time. I agree - go back and insist on having it fully checked out. Even if it is benign, if it has got larger, it should be identified.
Get it checked again. Five years is a long time so it might be benign, but Im not a doctor you should get one to look at it.
Good Luck

Hi Hippie
I had an ultrasound yesterday (thankfully negative) and the doctor took snapshots and made notes so they’d have something to compare against next time. Presumably they did that for you as well, so they should easily be able to set your mind at rest - and if there is a problem, the sooner it’s dealt with the better.
As for wasting people’s time, over the last fortnight I’ve had two doctors, a radiographer and a nurse all telling me that I should see a doctor straightaway if I notice any changes - I’m sure they’d rather deal with queries that turn out to be nothing than have you turn up in six month’s time with a definite problem. Yesterday I saw the specialist, by the time we got to the ultrasound she was pretty sure there wasn’t a problem, but she took the time to explain things properly, never made me feel rushed - and I’m sure felt that being able to tell me that I hadn’t got a problem was as much a success of the screening process as if she’d found an early stage cancer.
Please see your GP - otherwise you will probably worry yourself sick !
