Should I still go to my appointment OSBC as my lump seams to

Hi all, my name is Nicola and I am 38yrs old. I found a large lump in the top of my left breast 2 weeks ago. I went to see my G.P who referred me to the bc. My appointment is on Friday 26th Aug. I am wondering if I should still go, my lump has got a lot smaller and can barely feel it. I just don’t want to waste the doctor’s time and take up a much need appointment. I have never felt so scared or alone. My hubby is doing his normal thing of putting his head in the sand, refusing to talk about problems.
The nights feel so long and lonely. I’m glad I found this site, everyone seems supportive and friendly. Thanks

Hi Nicola,

my advice to you is to definitely go, although I suspect you already know that you should. I struggled for 3 months before I just went to the doctors - and even then it took a long phone call to a friend in the car park outside to convince me that I needed to see my GP.

It is so scary, and we all desperately want it to be nothing and to just go away but just imagine how you will feel when you do see the consultant and you have the tests and they tell you it is nothing. And if it is something then you have done the right thing by going - these things, as we are frequently told, are best treated early.

Please don’t doubt yourself. And as for the way in which your OH is dealing with it try to forget it for the time being and manage it later. One step at a time.

Let us know how you get on Friday - I’ll be looking out for an update from you.

All the very best, Naz

Hi Nicola
I think you really know the answer, yes yes yes please go. The last worry you should have is wasting doctors time. Hopefully you will be lucky and it will give you peace of mind. But remember the earlier things are diagnosed the better. Good luck come back and let us know.
You have come to the right place for support.
Sending you a big HUG xx

Hi

You should definitely still go to your appointment. The night before mine I was convinced my lump had dissapeared and I wasn’t going to go, but I did go and even when I was there I was convinced they wouldn’t be able to find it. Mine did turn out to be cancer (Huge shock) but it was found early!!! It is scary and hopefully yours will be nothing but as Naz said if not these things are best treated early!!

So please do still go you are not wasting anyones time and no one at the clinic will think you are!

Jill

Absolutely yes, you must go. You are NOT wasting anyone’s time.

There are some breast conditions that do the “up and down” thing - fluid-filled cysts leap to mind. I’ve had quite a few of these and the docs have told me that they can fill up and empty of their own accord. But wouldn’t you like to be certain that that’s what it is, rather than worrying?

Trot along, expect to have a mammo (not a bad thing to have, if a little uncomfortable and rather undignified) and possibly an ultrasound on the area. They might even offer to drain the cyst for you, if it turns out to be a cyst, but at least you will have a thorough examination to check your breasts, which will only serve to reassure you.

Please come back and tell us the good news after your appointment.

Meanwhile, check out the “what happens at the breast clinic” leaflet in the Publications part of this site. Very useful and will help to put your mind at rest until your appointment.

Thank you all for your support and your kind words.
I will be going to my appointment; I would be stupid if I didn’t.
