Should I take Oil of Primrose when hormone positive

Can you advise me please?

My breast care nurse told me to take Oil of Primrose which I have been taking. As I am ER and PR + and on Arimidex I am wondering whether I should really be taking it.

What do you think? I am sure you all understand this better than I do.

Christiane

My tumour was strongly ER+ (8/8) and PR+ (7/8) and I have been taking Evening Primrose oil and Arimidex for 18 months and have had no adverse effects

I am pre-menopausal so on tamoxifen (er+ by a mere 5% and pr-) was told by oncologist if tam gave me hot flushes evening primrose oil would help.

Good luck with your treatment.

Hi Everyone,

I am er pos on Tamoxifen and taking a high dose of primrose oil 1300mg daily for about 3 months. Recently my periods returned after none for 8 months and my hot flushes are only mild now and only get about 3 a day. Previously had about 3 an hour and sweat would be running down my back. So big improvement. Also I have suffered from mild Psoriasis for many years and it looks so much better on my elbows and knees, Its almost gone.

While I,m on the subject of health supplements, I cant live without my Glucosamine Sulphate. I was a fitness freak about 15 years ago and virtually wore away my knee cartilage, and since suffered pain in my knees even after walking a short distance. Anyway a huge improvement in knees now since taking Glucosamine everyday. I have found a high dose of Glucosamine that contains Collagen so i,m eager to try that also. Might as well have young girls knees with a face to match. I,ll keep you posted on that !!!

Lots of love Andrea xx

This is something that has worried me. I saw a nurse at hospital approx 7 years ago for a lump in left breast - wasnt bc but was told to take high strength Starflower. This I did for 7 years. Then when I stopped last year within a few months I was diagnosed with extensive lobular bc in right breast. Now HER2 and pr positive. Could Starflower have caused it?

I was advised by my onc to take glucosomine and evening primrose for my aching joints and hot flushes so assume it must be ok.

I am on arimidex and also take evening primrose oiol as onc recommended it and safe for ER + bc people. Cannot take glucosmine as made of crab shells and i am vegetarian

Hi Rachy,

A company called simply supplements does vegetarian Glucosamine made from Maize products.

Best wishes Andrea xx

Oh great, thanks Andrea. i will google this and have a look.

hya everyone i was at the radiotherapy unit today talking to a newbe to rads she had ovarian cancer and had full hysterectomy (excuse my spelling) and she swears by a little sage from the herbalist in water has reduced her hot flushes from about 23 per day to about 3 so think i will give it a go x

Hi everyone, my first time to the forum. I am a weak ER pos and a strong PR pos and taking Tamoxifen. I started having horrendous hot flushes and bouts of sweating particularly in the evening and over night. I was advised by the assistants at Holland and Barret to try Sage capsules, I take 2 every night before bed as they did tend to rift back taking them in the morning. I can honestly say they worked a treat. It takes about 3 months to get into your system properly but well worth the wait.

I am on Clonidine Hydrochloride from my GP for menopausal symptoms and this is apparently medication that does not affect hormone levels as it works differently to control flushes.
