Shoulder pain?

Hi ladies, hope you can help me.

I haven’t posted on here for a while but to occassionaly come to read and catch up.

Basically i was dx dec07 had lumpectomy, chemo and rads and finished in October 2008. Anyway in Nov 09 i started experiencing pain in my shoulder but only when i sleep on bad side. Did go to get it checked out but they said it was most probably nerve damage as xray was fine

If i don’t sleep on my bad side my shoulder is fine but if i sleep on it it almost ceases up, feels quite stiff and hurts.

I sometimes think its because i put on a bit of weight and thats whats causing it.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
Thanks

Sukes - I have shoulder pain which is worse after sleep, but it started before dx and when I had the shoulder scanned, I was told it was wear and tear. I had physio but it didn’t really help. I just put up with it now. I also have neck problems, which have been made worse by low oestrogen (Letrozole). It is hard to know when to get something checked out but if it is worrying you, it is best to make a nuisance of yourself until you are satisfied.

Hi, yes i have pain and stiffness , and the pain stops me from moving arm, Had X ray on monday , doc just rang to say it was just wear n tear, prbobly due to the fact , that we change our posture atfer mast as a protection ,without even knowing it, and we are pushed n shuvved a bit on the op table. So if you have oldish bones to start with, I do they tend to suffer.

off to see physio now, never away from hosp

take care

Me too, my physio is continuing but I’m finding my BC side shoulder and arm is getting worse instead of better. It is especially stiff and painful during the night and there is no way I can lay on my BC side, as I don’t know where to put my arm.

It’s 18 months since my mx and it is definitely worse now that when I first had the op. I’m not on any hormonals so can’t blame that either.

Ladies,

Thanks for the comments. I too struggle on where to put my shoulder/arm and defo cant sleep on ny bad side without pain and its always at night.

Peocock you describe it how i feel it and was hoping it would get better 2 years on not worse. I’m on tomaxifen and i’m only 36 so my bones are too old.

at least i know i’m not alone but its frustrating as no-one mentioned this to me as a side effect of the whole crap we’ve been through.
thanks

Hi sukes,
I am fairly new to this site but I agree that you should make a nuisance if yourself if you are worried; it may be nothing but it is better to be sure. I had mastectomies in -96 and 2006 and had shoulder pain on and off for a couple of years and then shoulder pain worsened last summer;I do have arthritis in other joints so so it was put down to that and more so when the xray in November was clear.
I don’t want to scare you but don’t be brushed off; I now have bone mets and wish I had been more demanding and asked for a bone scan.
Love and best wishes.
