My employer has been excellent and paid me in full since i was signed off at end of june 2017 for my mastectomy, i have since had chemo and due to side effects, infections, reactions my last chemo was only 2 weeks ago. I face further surgery for ovary removal, further mastectomy/reconstruction due to brca2 gene plus im on Herceptin till November plus 10years Tamoxifen. I just dont feel anywhere near ready to return to work (am on waiting list for counselling) but am worried i may be forced to as i now have no income. Dont know where to turn as this month my employer hasnt paid me. I do have savings but don’t want to use everything up as im not sure of my long term outlook. Can anyone help?
I think you get SSP for 28 weeks then you can claim ESA. I’ll try to post a link to the website. I hope you feel better soon.
Hi Sib. As city says, you’ll have run out of SSP (work would have claimed it back) they should give you a SSP1 form which shows why they are no longer paying you - you’ll need this to support you ESA claim.
When you’re feeling up to it you are allowed to do work up to 16 hours per week and earn up to £120 whilst claiming ESA.
Hope you perk up soon, don’t overdo it and rush back too early x
Thanks so much for replies. I think my employer has assumed thats since chemo has finished i will be returning to work but as we all.know its not that simple. I will contact them for ssp1 form. I have also contacted Macmillan for advice in benefits. X
