Side effect post chemo

Morning

I have SBC in my bones, breast and bone mets diagnosed on the same day so hence went to chemo Docetaxel straight away along with Herceptin and Prejeta. For the last say 3/4 cycles I developed pitted oedema to both legs which if anyone has had they will know it is very uncomfortable, restrictive and causes shortness of breath, in fact feel like I aged 30yrs.

Now this symptom disappeared each time as soon as I had my steroids pre chemo which was great and I went back to kind of normal. My question and worry is that I have now completed my 6 cycles of docetaxel 4 weeks ago (but still on herceptin and prejeta 3 weekly) and  the dreaded oedema came back but now I have no steroids to help I am left with very sore painful legs. They are very painful to touch in particularly my calfs and I am extremely stiff which makes walking difficult, in fact I am finding a lot of my body has become sore and achy and I am generally a lot less physically able than I was which is a worry.

I just am reaching out to any one in a similar situation for advice and reassurance that this may be completely normal due to the after effects of chemo and eventually my body will improve. I worry this is me now to stay like this which I find hard to accept at my age or any age!

I also developed diabetes while on chemo probably from the steroids and I know this may not help with fluid retention, I do not believe I have a DVT as I am very aware. I also have not yet started my Letrozole but should be doing so in the next week as I am dreading doing so and reluctant as I know this could cause joint and limb pain and further restrictions.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Hi

I haven’t had this myself but there is a Pertuzamab thread that I bumped up for someone else the other day. Have a look out for it and maybe copy and paste your post onto that thread as someone on that combo might be able to help. Otherwise I suggest speaking with your chemo nurses or oncologist but I know they often have no real experience of what to do with non standard SEs! Despite that they are brilliant at the job they do looking after us during chemo.
