Side effects cycle 1

Have completed one round of chemotherapy (docetaxal and carboplatin) and thought I had gotten away with symptoms afterwards until midweek when diarrhoea set in and has been relentless since. I’ve tried Imodium, loperamide, eating small portions, hydration sachets. Have taken paracetamol and ibuprofen for the stomach pain and cramps. Just wondered if anyone else had tips to how to make this any less bearable or when symptoms eased? Had all my bloods done yesterday so no sign of infection. Is this to be expected every cycle?

This doesn’t sound a very pleasant thing to be dealing with. Have you called your chemo helpline? They may be able to prescribe something stronger. You certainly shouldn’t suffer in silence.

Hopefully some others will be along to let you know what worked for them.

Hi - I had this after my first docetaxel, it was better for the following cycles. I was advised to take Imodium BEFORE eating as it eases the cramps ahead of food hitting the gut. I also drank electrolytes for the first few days to ensure I was getting enough fluids. It’s really horrible but it will get better x

Upping carbs and taking Imodium helped with the docetaxol trots might be worth a try.:two_hearts::two_hearts::sparkles::sparkles:Shi xx

Thank you both, I have actually eaten more bread than I ever used to so maybe that will help with the carb intake. I have got to the end of my post treatment injections for this round now so I’m hoping things will improve over the coming days. Glad I’m not the only one with a sensitive gut! :woman_facepalming:

Hi
Definitely up the carbs, i got prescribed buscopan for the washing machine tummy/ cramps and imodium and diorylyte sachets but by chemo 3 my chemo team gave me a higher dose prescription of loperamide which stopped it and it never came back

Give them a call and please don’t suffer in silence they have a whole cabinet of stuff a bit like a mary poppins bag to help you xx

Thank you! That’s really helpful. I will ask for those drugs then. Thought I was limited to Imodium and loperamide. 5 days straight now, I’ve had enough of sitting on the loo constantly!
