Hi all. Im booked in next week to have a single mastectomy and reconstruction with an implant and removal of sentinel lymph nodes. Im bringing a choice of bras but was wondering if breast pads that nursing mothers use might be a good idea to get?
I bought some supportive soft sports bras from primark. I got at least band size up and 2 cup sizes up. I did have to cut the fabric a little to prevent pressure on a sore bit. You could also bra extenders to increase the band size. You will probably have drains in so hence the bigger size. They will get well used- so you need at least 2. The dressing used on my reconstruction was great - I wouldn’t buy breast pads- I didn’t have much leakage that these would have stopped. Once the swelling had gone down and I was able to revert to normal bras I just chucked the beaten up sports bras away. I now wear m &s ‘ body’ soft cup bras and am even able to wear this range’s soft cup underwired bras but this takes time and healing.
