Hi there
I have not posted for a while was diagnosed with grade 2 invasive lobular 2 years ago had single mastectomy aged 49
My older sister was diagnosed in December with grade 2a melanoma
Today our younger sister has been diagnosed with almost identical breast cancer to me
I am always worried about recurrence but now more concerned about genetics should I push for testing?
Hello, genetics screening is really beneficial and in the UK they have widened their guidelines as to who is eligible. I was diagnosed triple postive 20 years ago. My Mum was diagnosed with the same BC 5 years ago. Her oncologist advised me to seek genetic screening which I did and was turned down. Then the guidelines changed, and I was tested 2 years ago. The screening came back clear. I have since had a first cousin diagnosed with the same BC. Mum’s oncologist believes it is genetic, but the genes responsible are not detectable yet. I’m waffling, but your sister can chat to her oncologist as see if she can be screened. Hopefully she will meet the criteria to have it. Best wishes for her recovery and to you. It’s tough supporting a family member after your own experiences.
Thank you so much for your reply it’s really helpful to know all those
I spoke to my younger sister this morning who said her dr suggested I start the enquiry as I was the first
I think I will just reach out and see what they say can’t do any harm even if they say no
Thank you for your well wishes - it really is a difficult one as each persons experience is their journey but it devintely brings it all back again
Thanks again x
