Skype

Anyone here on Skype? I’m very new to it although I’ve known about it for a couple of years. We have a son who lives in the Cayman Islands and I registered with Skype, bought myself a webcam and microphone and got Skypeing. We could see and hear him and his fiancee a treat but they couldn’t see us :frowning: We’re with NTL and somebody told me that a few others who are with NTL have trouble with Skype.

Then yesterday, my cousin who’s moved to Borneo Skyped me out of the blue and we could see and hear each other brilliantly. We chatted for 20 minutes and it was ALL FREE!!!

And you can do conference calls with up to 24 taking part. We could all have a meet and it’d save time and expense going to a venue hehehehe.

I’ll take that as a no then :frowning:

I’ve never actually heard of Skype but it sounds terrific, where did you get the info about it?

Hi, Marcos

I heard about it a couple of years ago on another forum. It’s brilliant. I have to say though that my computer was ringing (an incoming Skype call) the other afternoon, and I didn’t answer it because I was still in my dressing gown!! I went and hid on the landing until it stopped, even though I knew the caller wouldn’t be able to see me until I answered the call hehehe.

Good luck to us all.

since bc has changed my life dramatically
I can no longer fly up to see my granddaughter in new england
so
skype is one of the solutions I was thinking of
you know, the attention span of 7 year olds is pretty short
if grandma stays out of the picture for too long…it is not a good sign
so thanks for the reminder
I will go check it out

had skype, spoke to brother-in-law who was working overseas. got rid of it when he came home as had no-one to talk to. it is good though

Hi GrannyScouse

I have Skype and a webcam and it’s great fun for chatting with peop[le whether here or abroad. It’s great to talk to my sister who lives in Manchester and also to see the baby and talk to him too. I love seeing what he’s up to and hearing him talk. He knows that when he comes to London with my sister, he can talk to his father (my brother-in-law) on the computer and he often asks to do that. It’s great but I don’t think that many people have it.

Just got skype two days ago[son in Turkey]Then found Turkey not on list of countries for free calls does that mean we cant use it?I want to talk to/see my granddaughter[8].I’d love some help with this.Valxx

Val -
haven’t downloaded it yet but will take notes so I can be of some help to you when I do.
my sister lives in Californina…3000 miles away…along with her kids
and my kids are up in New England…one of which has my granddaughter
so this would be a lovely way to keep in touch and actually
see each other
esp with the airline fares going out of my range for flying to see them
we can use if for much else too really
I am sure we can get creative with it eventually

does it matter what kind of webcam one gets?

I’m not sure EJ I dont think so.Mine is built into my laptop so is very easy.I’m just thick about the mechanics.Do you have to have the computer on all the time?do you ring a phone number or an email or a designated number??Do you prearrange a time?If so I’d have to phone them anyway.Any help gratefully received.Love Valxx

Just google Skype and all the info you need is there. You need a webcam to video and a mike to talk but it is all FREE.

I HAVE DONE IT!!!I just talked to my family in Turkey for half an hour with a video link.I saw their new flat and chatted to my granddaughter I cant tell you how wonderful it is WOW!!1
