I was diagnosed with DCIS at the end of last week, which I know is good news relatively speaking. However, being slim and small breasted my options seem to be really limited. Just wanted to know if there is anyone else out there who has been through this. I’ve been recommended to have a mastectomy due to size of my breasts but can’t have delayed reconstruction, due to size, nor can I have LD or TRAM options for the same reason. The hospital I’m under doesn’t do any of the reconstructions related to buttocks or thighs (which I think could be an option). So looks like the only choice is nothing or implant. Like many people I have one breast which is significantly bigger than the other - and it’s the larger breast I will loose so they say they will only implant to match the bump that I have for the other breast. At the moment I can’t cope with the thought of being even flatter than I already am. Any ideas or advice welcome!
Hi ET4
Firstly welcome to the Breast Cancer Care discussion forum, I’m sorry to read of your recent diagnosis. Whilst you wait for the other users to reply with their experiences you might find it helpful to read the BCC booklet on reconstruction, it contains lots of information on what types of reconstructions are available and when they are suitable. If you would like to read this on line or order a copy just follow the link below:-

If you have any other questions or would like to talk things through with someone please do give the helpline a call on 0808 800 6000. Here you can share your concenrs with someone who will offer you emotional support as well as practical information. The lines are open Monday to Friday 9 to 5pm and Saturday 10 to 2pm.
Best wishes Sam, BCC Facilitator
Thanks but already read that and 2 other books commended at the end of the publication. Not much help as information is very generalised in relation to being small breasted. There seems to be far more info on options for large breasted women. I also tried the helpline and they recommended here.
hi ET4
I too am very small breasted and have been told I have to have a mastectomy due to the size of me, and yes it’s my bigger one! I have been told that reconstruction cannot take place for at least by 6 months. My breast care nurse says they will go through it with me at length nearer the time but my boobs have always been an issue for me as I am so small and have lots of concerns - looking at the mastectomy underwear there dont seem to be any enhancer bras. I don’t think the surgeons appreciate we feel feel.
Having said that, my lump is right by the nipple, so a lumpectomy is probably going to leave me really disfigured! Damned either way. I feel for you and sorry I can’t really be any help.
best wishes

i am not large breasted, only a small c cup and had a mx 3 weeks since. i am wearing bras that I got from sainsburys they are like sports bras but have a padded insert, this with the softie means I look like I have breast whatever I am wearing.
Hi,
I started off with 3FF in 1991. Had lumpectomy, then breast reduction in 2008. Was very happy with 34D. Four years later, new IDC. Mastectomy 11th March. Was told I could only have LD Flap, but am now down for DIEP flap and a second reduction. I don’t care what I’m left with, solong as it’s roughly even. Have to travel to have this done - but worth asking around. I didn’t realise you can have more than two opinions. Going with my third. Think I may end up 34B, but not sure.
Hope this helps,
Margaret x
